Nurse Atkinson Cassell Abdelfattah Lucas are top 5 imo, Udoka being an overrated candidate. A 51-31 record with that Celtics team is not impressive, nor is his cheating scandal.
That is never going to happen in today's NBA. Teams cost too much money now. Plus, players are going to run to the owner whenever the coach gets on their nerves. Player threaten's trade or makes it clear that they will not be staying there past FA. At that point, owner/GM will get involved because now you are messing with a billionaire's money and they are not having it. Just ask Former HCs McHale, Vogel, SVG, Snyder, McMillian, Beilein, Fizdale, Brown, etc. All got run out of town by superstars (real or perceived).
What person would choose a man who never won a first round series with the team as their favorite coach? Not only did we lose with JVG, we blew leads in two series. Guy was a joke of a coach and should stick to the analysis.
I wouldn't necessarily ask them for a short list either. but they could/should be part of the interview process. no?
The interesting bit starts at 4:15...I want this guy so bad on the Rockets. I was bummed when it was reported he would sign with CHA because I wanted him to coach our team. Luckily he declined and stayed another year, and now We have a chance to get him. He would be the best option for this team. Let him pick and chose whomever he wants, give him the keys. He will make monsters out of our guys.
I was starting to lean Nurse as my first choice and Atkinson as second choice but after hearing that i have him back at the top of my list with Nurse being a close second.

IME screwed up. He paid a heavy price for his actions. If we are speaking of on the court only what he did with Boston was incredible. He's choice #1. Atkinson or Nurse would be fine as well. I just prefer that they swing for the fences instead of going the safe route with another retread.
What Udoka did in the second half of last season and the playoffs was very impressive though. He took over a Celtics team in a messy situation and had them playing amazing basketball for the entire second half of the year. (Then he made it messy all over again)
