Hard to say if you are not in the interview room to hear their philosophy, but maybe billy donovan would be better. But the rockets have never hired the right coach since rick adelman.

Van Gundy is a control freak though. Doubt they give that up. If I am SVG or JVG I would only coach the Heat, no other team. Why risking your health for anything less.
I will take them over Van Gundy, although they all have issues too. For all the praise Fizdale gets, I have never been impressed. Joerger is talented and some teams wonder if he would succeed in a stable organization. Kenny Atkinson is a strong coach who gets a lot out of his teams defensively and runs an offense that fits the players the Rockets have... but the question is why did the Nets move on. There are a number of strong assistant coaches waiting for opportunities (Silas/Hardy) but I don’t know if the Rockets would go that route with this group. Maybe they would if they could bring Gentry on as an asociare head coach.
Agreed on your first point, I would be shocked if they bring in JVG. I also think Fizdale is all reputation and people will put 2+2 together with the 'but he's tough and will hold them accountable!' but why would the players respect him. I would like Atkinson out of all those, although picking a young assistant with some new ideas would be cool and I think Morey's preference. As you had mentioned in other posts though, they would need strong assistant coaches that will require paying the going rate. Atkinson is probably the one who would be the most seamless transition but maybe that want something more drastic.

There’s no point in rooting for this team that hard to be honest when they quit and allow referees bias to affect them, have a leader who doesn’t lead as we require and expect an MVP to, have a coach who doesn’t adapt and a GM and coach who only use data without context and quite frankly limit our best player.
