True. I think this is the first time a new generation came around and I thought, "It's coming out already?" With PS2 and PS3(and xbox equivalent) I could understand the need for an upgrade. With PS4 I'll most certainly wait for a must-have game before I buy the console.

 

A) I merely said it was a scumbag move, not that others' buying decisions are "your fault."
B) Um, because non-launch games might be announced that could persuade somebody to buy one system vs the other?

Again though, probably moot point. I really doubt you will make any appreciable money out of it, if anything at all.

Scalping no matter how prevelant and accepted it is, its predatory and not well received.

It could just come down to use of word "scalp" and the shamelessness of it. Cuz I dont think people have much problem buying items and reselling on secondarily market. As long as it looks "savvy" and not "exploitative"

 

I have a PS4 pre-order, and I'll probably cancel it. Markup won't be much, so resell value isn't there and I don't need to spend that kind of cash on a new console.

 

Still need some launch details for both systems (e.g., will XBO launch on 11/8?), though still more or less known at this point.

Doubt either one will be as big as previous generations (probably more like Wii U). Supply will be MUCH better with these consoles than say PS3 and 360, though both companies are also launching in more areas than usual IIRC (more so PS4 than XBO).

PS4 has WAY more preorders than PS2 (or any PS) IIRC, which indicates a lot of supply and also a lot of demand. But I think at some point, the "hardcore" who would be willing to pay tons of money for a launch system will easily be able to get one (either with a preorder or just waiting a couple of weeks).

I can't say specifically (who can?), but I'll go with what most have said, and I wouldn't necessarily expect a lot of profit from this. Huge supply (maybe even with worldwide launches), and even with some solid launch games, demand probably won't be as high for these new consoles.

And yeah, not a fan of people doing this kind of thing either.

 

This thread seems like it's full of people with a propensity to NOT make money. It's simple supply and demand, if the market is there for him then he may get back a decent return. If not, then he'll break even at worst. Definition of low risk high reward, hell... Daryl Morey himself would approve of this idea.

Some of ya'll need to get out of your feelings, then off your ass, and figure out a way to go and GET IT. Good luck, OP.

 

Supply & Demand, I have no problem with it for luxury items. I think you can make a good profit if you're quick and a good seller.

 

I doubt this generation is going to get too crazy in the way PS2 did, (and slightly with the 360/PS3/Wii).
Seems there's a ton of supply judging by how some places still have preorders available, and the fact that two major consoles are coming out at the exact same time, the buyers will be split for the most part. Last time around, there was a year gap between 360 and PS3, so those who wanted both had plenty of time to save up the extra 600 bucks for the PS3 the year after.

Long story short, you might get lucky if you wait til Christmas, but at the same time, you have to imagine that there are a ton of people with your exact same thought, and Sony and Microsoft like to make money too, so there very well could be a decent supply by then.

I have the PS4 preordered. I'll sell it if I can get $750 which I doubt I can. In college I used to buy and sell concert tickets for 100+% markup before that whole industry became centralized and the margins dipped. Those were the days.

 

The XBox is a better entertainment hub...has a more powerful cloud...has potential with the new kinect...other than a couple PS games, I generally like the XBox games more...and most of my friends will have an XBone (online play).

The PS4 specs are more powerful than the XBone, but I dont think that will ultimately make much of a difference, if any.
