With all due respect...we don't need a 5 w/offensive game? C'mon!!! If we put a 5 w/o any O out there, then all the centers can just stay in the middle and wait for Steve/Cat to drive down the lane and kill 'em. We need shooters at all of the positions with a zone, plus someone with a low post game to play 4/5. Mo ain't that guy, Rice can post, but is more valuable outside. Gatling or someone like him could help us play the in-out game that we'll need to take advantage of our shooters. Maybe Chris ain't Mr. Chemistry, but he would fill a void we have now. If he ain't the one for the reasons discussed earlier, we still need a decent 5. I don't think anyone will pay him the kinda money he was making. Cato, has defensive skills, but absolutely nothing but dunks in his pocket of skills. No one has any info on whether he has been working on his game. He's probably spending the off-season honing his literary skills...too bad he didn't find the time to attend Pete Newell's big man camp. Give the guy a shot...sure...what choice to we have...unless...
Chris Gatling has a pointy head and has a tendency to play well for a while, then disappear completely. We already have a guy like that on our squad, minus the pointy head.
Maybe Gatling's attitude problems were caused by being on so many crappy teams. Winning seems to take care of things like that. I would love to have Gat of of the bench because our second unit may be scoring challenged. C - Jason Collier PF - Kenny (I can't make lay-ups) Thomas SF - Eddie Griffin SG - Terence Morris? (Maybe good d at the 2) PG - Moochie Norris Somebody needs to put the ball in the hole.
I agree. I don't know why scoring coming off the bench would be a bad thing. Gatling is actually as consistent a 6th man as you'll ever find. He does a lot of things besides score. As for his attitude, I'm sure you'd be asking for the ball if you could score at will and your Cleveland teammates couldn't. When he was in Miami Riley wanted him to start but he said he preferred to come off the bench. I think that shows he is not going to be calling for the ball from Franchise or Cuttino. And as mentioned earlier, winning might be a cure all.
Still, I disagree. We can't have Gatling on this team without corrupting team chemistry. I've just finished watching a game he played in. Him and Rice would get into a riff. With Cato too. They can't co-exist. We already have problems getting Francis to shoot more, now add Glen Rice and Chris Gatling. I saw, get mccoy to back Cato up, and we're done dealing or get Jahidi by trading Walt. We just need someone to backup cato, that plays good D and is a good rebounder. We don't need any more offense, you hear? NONE. Look: Francis Cat Rice Mo Walt Langhi Moochie KT These guys all take their shots, and put offense before defense. With four on the floor at the same time, one is gonna get double teamed, and that makes it easier. I know Cato's perceived as a stiff, but he can dunk, he can make alley-oops and putbacks. That's just fine in case someone leaves him open to block a shot or double team. Gatling, not worth the IR spot for this team. Now, if it was the Sixers or Lakers or whomever needs someone to score off the bench, or as a starter occasionally, they should be interested. I'm not saying he's a bad player, but there's such a thing as too much firepower.
Not that it matters, but my sister actually dated Gatling when she lived in Oakland back in 1994. She said he was nice at first, but then became a prick at the end...........go figure
Sane, Seems you have strong feelings about us not getting a big man who can score. How did you feel about retaining Hakeem? In my book, I wanted Hakeem to stay to provide us w/a big man with an all-around game. If Cato played defense, ala-Mutumbo then I could deal with his lack of O, but he just hasn't proven he wants it. So why not explore options like Gatling? Yes, I like Jahidi also and would love to get him and maybe Hubert Davis (back-up 2) for Walt, but we'll have to wait to see if that will happen.
I wish we had kept Hakeem. but if we had kept Hakeem, I would've been against the notion of getting Rice. Five scorers are too much on a young team. The Blazers are bunch of ppl that would saacrifice anything for a ring. But the Rockets are not that desperate. We need a defensive anchor. Like I said, I'm not afainst Gatling, but against more firepower. To much sometimes yields too little.
Let me help you guys out on the problem with Mr. Galin.... It's Called B A L L H O G .... I watched him play with Dallas and the Man is like the moving Black Hole.... Once the ball goes in IT NEVER COMES OUT.... Say no to Gatlin!!!!
Well, I've heard a few decent points both why we should and should not consider Gat-man, but I've not heard any solid arguments either way. Although I haven't seen him play in a few years, I still think he'd be a valuable p/u if we can't find a better upgrade. I do think w/need a 5 with some O and I'm afraid Collier may be hampered this year or even if healthy he still isn't the proven scorer that a Gatling offers. I really hope that we can pull Mihm from CLEV, but that just because I'm a Texan and hope that an ol' Texas boy would do good returning home. I'll keep looking for other solutions, but CLEV just seems to have some extras and we might be able to work something out with Luke...maybe some of these extra picks we have.
Say "No Way" to Gatman. Early in his career he had some energy, but now he is running on some of the skinniest legs east of the Mississippi. I live close to Cleveland and watched him play quite a bit last year. He has offense, but he is the black hole described earlier. I get the impression that he just wants to pad his stats for his next contract because he has been well traveled. I am in favor of bringing Mihm in, though. He has skills we want in the 5 spot, and he is solid physically and mentally. We would have had a better shot at bringing him in if they hadn't made a coaching change, though. Mihm didn't get the focus he needed on the Cavs because they went thru early injury problems, and the pressure was on to produce immediately. Now the pressure is not as great on Mihm with Lucas just taking the reins. He might have more time to develop.
DrewDog I can't believe you mentioned your sister as subject material in relation to Gatling, then used the words"prick" and the phrase "in the end" all in the same sentence ....... without ...... one single deleterious or lascivious remark fro this board. I congratulate you on your good fortune. I congratulate the board on bending towards a more mature attitude. Ppsttt: More than likely the nets nods are out trolling the air for more accesible victims to flame, and just missed the opportunity.
Rudyball, Thanks for the insight. Maybe CD can do some magic and talk Luke out of Mihm...CLEV really has too many 4/5 type guys. Any ideas from the media there what CLEV needs to finish its team off? I've heard they're been lookie at Moochie...does that mean they think Bimbo can't handle the back-up role?
