My problem with the evaluation equation(s) is the vast disagreement with the processes used to assess real economic value of a major sports franchise to a city.

Indy is a real vivid example as the 'Malice in the Palace' threw that whole franchise into a desperate red inked black hole. It's only now, three years into on-court relevancy, that the Pacers are returning to pre-fight levels.

Re: Mr October - - I have 'heard' Thabo is going to be the sacrificial Jeremy in OKC.

This is correct. Thabo will likely be allowed to walk. If you look at Lambs increasing minutes...it is clear Lamb will be starting next yr

So, moving forward (or guard) first Harden, then Thabo, Mr October, and finally Lamb to come, grow, exceed the contract Clay's fingers will sign and be sent off to be replaced by more replaceables?

What happens if, or when, Messers Durant and/or Russ decide to take their talents to markets beyond the hometown to The Cowboy Hall of Fame?

Why would Durant come to Houston????? You've added Harden and Howard and are 6th in the West...same as last yr at this time. Defense hasnt improved (16th last yr....15th right now). Why would the one of the best mid range shooters in the game leave the best team in the West to go to Houston and shoot 3s and layups for Morey???

The players have improved and carried the team. Bonehead has remained much the same. Collison instead of Perkins was obvious. My Twitter feed lit up during those Finals with national sportwriters making fun of Bonehead. Despite Harden, the margin was razor thin. Too much to rehash here.

Get off Harden. You are such a joke of a broken record. Thunder wouldn't have made the Finals without him. Do you realize how childish you sound? At least try to sound like an adult.

If/when Bonehead gets fired, we'll see how many teams kill each other going after him. By then, it will be too late to retain KD, WB, etc and the Thunder will become irrelevant.

And your thinking that winning a title would not increase the Knicks value?

    1. so the coaching has nothing to do with it?? smh

    2. wont let up on Harden. You are right the margin was razor thin even with Harden sucking. Doesnt change the fact that he shot 37.5% from the field and avged 6 less points vs Miami. It is well documented that he was out late partying with his girl at the time (rapper Trina). But...hes not our probem now

    3. In 2016, Russell Westbrook (28), Serge Ibaka (27), Perry Jones III (25), Jeremy Lamb (24) and Steven Adams (23) will all be under contract in Oklahoma City. Why would Durant go anywhere else? To play with 32 yr old Dwight Howard??

Who has missed more games due to injury? Who has had a major injury to the knee? Who has is currently not playing due to a flare up of his knee injury?

Thanks for playing, try again when you have some actual facts.

Not the point.....they are the richest even tho they havent won a title since 1973:eek:......and they're value continues to grow.

    in terms of valuation..

Good, marketable players MUCH more important winning a title. Thats just icing on the cake

fans value winning & championship over everything else. the owners and the players dont, and rightfully so. fans need to stop trying to view a players or owners decisions from a fan's perspective or else they'll just get unnecessarily frustrated.

sure it would, but the question is whether going over the lux tax just for a chance to win is worth it from an owners perspective.

    1. Harden has missed more games due to injury in his nba career.

    2. Before this injury...Russ was avging close to a trip-dub (unreal for a pg) I expect he will again when he returns.

    3. Before you say he wont be careful. Because if he does...I will let you know about it on this forum.

kind of off topic but I keep seeing numbers regarding the most profitable franchise, most value, most revenue, etc. and it always comes down to Lakers and Knicks.

both teams claim their franchise has more value. which one is accurate?

does one bring in more revenue than the other while the other is still more profitable or valuable?

I keep seeing the Knicks on top, in the Forbes annual report, for example, but I know the Lakers are bringing in billions in tv and kb jersey sales alone...

There are many mitigating factors. The biggest one both have in common?? Massive TV deals. Spurs have 4 titles, middle of the road TV deal...of which 1/7th goes to the silna bros "in perpetuity" (see spirits of st louis)

Who said Durant or Westbrook was Houston bound? I asked what happens in a market like OKC with the ownership's history if/when either/both leave at the end of their current contracts???

The single only way to know which franchise has greater value would be for them to go on the market at the same time with the same non-basketball aspects removed from the equation.

Impossible to get an accurate economic determination. Remember how Dr B managed to buy the Lakes in the very first place?

    1. you asked....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-_K3gWqaBk

    2. Ownership made a call not to give 3 players max contracts. No team in the NBa is paying 3 players the max. Not the Lakers, not Houston, not Miami...no one. But the Thunder are "cheap" because they didnt do it???
