Reggie Jackson is in the 3rd year of his rookie contract. His contract ends in summer 2015, when he becomes a restricted free agent.

So, like James Harden before him, OKC can keep him as long as they are willing to match whatever offer he gets on the market. The question is (like it was in the Harden situation) whether they are willing to pay.

Jackson is eligible for an extension in summer 2014. I am not sure what his price range will be-- likely lower than Harden's back then but still pretty rich given what guys like Bledsoe and Hayward were reported to be asking last summer. I wonder if OKC will be willing to trade him before next season starts if they don't reach a contract extension like they did with Harden.

Anyhow, kudos to Sam Presti for selecting good talent in the lower part of the draft and kudos for the OKC coaches for helping Jackson get better-- and of course to Jackson for his own hard work, but this is what you get for having owners who put you on a budget. Maybe the new NBA national TV deal will move the tax threshold higher and help OKC out.

Their a reason why okc play at cheepskate arena.

Doesn't matter if he was the second coming of LBJ, those bums wouldn't go all in to win it all

OKC is lucky that the market is saturated with good-but-not-great PGs

As long as none of the big dogs are looking for PG help, I'm sure they'll retain him

Except the title is not meaningless even in $ terms. According to a sports economist at the Parthenon Group (where Morey used to work, IIRC), having a title is huge factor in increasing a team's valuation.

True. Most teams are pretty set at point guard and it seems like PG is the easiest position to find a serviceable player for. Even the teams that aren't set at PG right now could find their answer at that position by the 2015 free agency.

The way Westbrook is going right now, he'll be retired by 2015 and RJack will be starting in OKC.

So you are saying that the Thunder should move to New York City and away from their inferior market?

    Here we go...

    1. Westbrook will be fine
    2. We arent Houston. Harden will likely retire before Russ due to injury. Houston is cursed (see Yao Ming for reference)

theres no need to pity OKC for not being able to afford big $$, because that is not true. They are making tons of money but people still think that they're just some poor little small market team battling against goliath. If the owners want to be frugal, than it's their choice, not necessity.

You're wrong. Knicks may have the most valuable franchise but teams that win titles INCREASE their values by the greatest percentage.

This is old news. Blah blah blah. I think he's likely a goner too.

The real story here is Mayberry actually writing something provocative about the Thunder. Anything that puts heat on coach Bonehead for his dumb decisions is a good thing. Having Derek Fisher and Kendrick Perkins on the team shouldn't be a bad thing, but it is. It isn't their fault Bonehead is so often an idiot when it comes to playing time. It's been mind-blowing and disappointing the last few years to watch him mismanage games. The Thunder still don't have an offensive system worth a dime and Presti's ability to accumulate talent has masked Bonehead's ineptness.

Hopefully Mayberry continues being critical for a change. It would be welcome.

How big of an impact though? The Spurs valuation is not that much higher than other small market teams that have never won a title or not one in a long time.

He hasn't learned in 5 years. It's been the same-old same-old. Bonehead just isn't a bright bulb and he's the reason, KD, WB, RJ will all leave OKC.

This is the guy who said during the 2012 Finals that he kept playing Perkins so much because he helped the offense by "setting good picks" while not being able to guard anyone when the Heat went small.

Hes obviously has learned something. OKCs win percentage has increased every single yr hes been head coach. The teams defense also improved every yr. as far as 2012...what would you have done?? Put collison in?? How was he supposed to know Harden wouldnt show up in the Finals?? Or that Wade would own Harden on the other end??

How do you know they are making tons of money? They are a small market team with limited resources.
