Question. I just read that Obama's grandmother broke her hip and then became gravely ill. What is it about the elderly and broken bones (especially hips)? My great-great grandmother passed away from the same thing. I've never really understood it I guess.

Interesting photo of Obama's grandparents making the rounds today... striking resemblance between Obama and his grandfather...

More fragile bones + ever-worsening ability to balance.

The hip is so major, and so important to standing and walking, that this injury is commonly what confines people to bed, keeps them in long hospital stays, and that is more often than not a recipe for a further decline in health.

PS -- thanks for the integrity, OMR. Over the top cool of you.

Is that a cute way of telling me to quit beating my wife?

I never told you to fix anything in your house fool.

But since you brought it up.......My wife has been nagging me to build an awning for our back patio, if you gave me a nail, a hammer and some wood, all I could ever make is a piece of wood with a nail it, I'm not very wood savoy, and ideas on how I could 'fix that up'?

    Wow, you're wispy.

Did you even read the Freedom of Choice Act? do you realize how dangerous it is? even on the travesties it brings up that have nothing to do with abortion?

probably not.....you're too worried about McCain not making eye contact with Obama.

thats the kind of crap you worry about.......how 'presidential' Obama looks. Nevermind the communist like agendas wrapped up in FOCA.

I'm dissapointed in you. You left out your usual, 'elitist', 'wingnut' etc......attacks on my religious beliefs. go drink a redbull and step up Donny.

since I'm a nice guy......I'll help you too.

Brenham? WTF? No, I was Trader_Jorge's roomie at Rice, not Blinn JC.

And how did you know my real nickname, Kebab?

And there's not much of an argument left in this thread. The OP said he was sorry he didn't have the full story before he posted.

It's pretty much a bbs rule that once you start altering others post trying to be cute you're either changing the subject or admitting you’ve lost the argument.

    Your choice on this one

Damn, that's how my grandmother on my father's side passed this year. She fell down some stairs, broke her hip, had an operation, and then never really fully recovered. :(

Osteoporosis (sp?) hits women badly because the body uses up the calcium stores in the bones and the average diet doesn't replenish it. I believe the rate in calcium absorption also decreases as you get older.

This effect starts for women right after childbirth, so the prevention has to start just as early.

Things like exercise with light to medium weight training, at least 15 minutes of daily sun, and taking calcium supplements goes a long way.
