It's team policy. No hair under the lip. The Yankees are a business and they want their players to represent the team in a positive manner and look professional as possible. They are also not allowed to wear earrings and must wear a suit and a tie when they travel.

Sorry, I quoted the wrong post there... was going after pg :p

Because Baseball is a gentelmen's game, I wish more owners did this... like the NBA's dress code. They are business men and need to act like they are. This is a game where up until the late 50s people wore their Sunday's best to the games as fans.

Are you serious? How does a player having a beard affect anything about the game? They are not business men in the typical sense. Regardless, I work for one of the fastest growing tech companies in America. Every single male member of management, from the CEO on down, wears a goatee.

It ain't the 50s anymore and thank God for that.

Of course, the NBA has that r****ded dress code, yet will let Chris Kamen continue to play...

A company dress code is a company dress code, and he has 54 million reasons to abide by it. If you don't think they are business men then you need to rethink professional sports for the last 20 years... it is all about business, hell they even have unions and strike like they are a business. As much as I hate paying 20 bucks a week to dry cleaners I'd hate it even more if the people I worked with dress like slobs everyday or I had to see some of their underwear becuase they wore their pants down to their knees.

I understand why he should abide by it, I'm just arguing the stupidity behind a dress or face code for baseball players. They're hitting balls with sticks, trying to catch them with gloves, and running around a diamond. They ain't arguing in front of the Supreme Court.

Because they are paid millions of dollars a year, that's why. The dude's making 7 bucks an hour at your local Best Buy have to abide by a dress code, and so do people flipping burgers. I mean, they just sell DVDs and flip burgers why should they need a dress code? What makes ball players so special? The fact that athletes make millions is just another reason why they should do it in the first place.

Again, you're not understanding my argument.

I simply think not allowing players to wear a beard or a goatee is stupid. I'm not arguing that anyone who works at places that has these codes (btw, I see people at Best Buy and Sonic wearing goatees) should break them, just that they're stupid.

BTW, gentlemen's game? Yeah, that Babe Ruth character was a real gentlemen. Good thing he wasn't wearing a goatee while boozing it up and womanizing. Same with Ty Cobb. Racists are OK until you put some facial hair on them.

Retail and food places have facial hair policies dependent on the store manager, not the coorporation... which is just how the MLB works. I have a budy who worked at Best Buy a few years back and was sent home a few times because he had to shave.

As far as it being a gentlemen's game, you can't change the arguement of an entire league over the idiocy of few players that played decades ago... that's just dumb. Baseball to this day has a 'respect' and 'attitude' that no other professional sports league does. It has it's share of problems, but player attitude, taunting and smack talk isn't one of them.

Did anyone else hear on 610 this morning that except for their 2nd baseman, every starting fielder makes 10 mil+ on the Yankeees?!?! That's insane!

The bottom line is, the owner of the team has the final say on how/what players do on and off the field when it is in team related. The players know before signing their contracts of the rules, and they can choose to move on with out. The boss has the say when it comes to any job and baseball is no different.

I'll take that bet. I will agree about the size of his contract, but since it's only 4 years, I'm ok with it.

Good thing baseball doesn't have a 'no back acne' rule.
