Pretty much, they will have to fill the rest of their roster with minimum talent.

The killer thing about this it adds so much pressure to these guys. They pretty much MUST win a championship, if they don't it is a complete failure.

It will be interesting if they do all end up playing for the Heat. I wonder about the supporting cast though! The Celtics found it difficult in the regard.

The thing I wonder about is not the first few seasons, but what happens the next time their contracts come up.

Wade has won a title already, sure Shaq was there, but no one says much about that. However Lebron will always have needed to team up with two other allstars to win a title, and I can see him hitting 30 and wanting to do it on his own.

If Lebron signs, they still have to fill out the other 9 roster spots. Who else are they going to sign? James Jones? Juwan Howard?

There still better than the Lakers, Nuggets or Celtics in my opinion. This whole offseason spectacle has been one big publicity stunt. After all this nonsense, he'll still never win a ring

This is what is puzzling to me. I will need someone with cap knowledge to explain how this works. It has already been reported that Wade and Bosh would accept less money if LeBron goes to Miami, which they would have to do because Miami cannot sign all three to max deals. But let's say that it happens and Miami is then looking at 7 roster spots to fill with Beasley and Chalmers still on the team.

If I understand correctly, each of those 7 roster spots would have a cap hold of $500K (the leauge minimum), which would put the Heat right against the cap (assuming LeBron signs for the full max and Bosh and Wade sign for a round $14M apiece). At that point wouldn't the Heat have to simply, swap each spot for a player that makes the minimum in order to fill out their roster? They can't go over the cap by signing players.

I guess they could split the MLE and use it on two players, but you would still have 5 minimum salary players, which would likely have to come from the D-league. And all of this is just to get the team to 12 players. Most carry the full 15.

Does this sound right, or is their another way for them to fill out that depleted roster? Thanks for any clarification that can be provided.

I don't think they have the MLE available. The Heat would have had to renounce all their free agents (Jermaine O'Neal and such) to actually have all that cap space. I think you have to be over the salary cap to get the MLE.

The MLE is an exception for teams with no cap space. Since the Heat have cap space, there is no MLE. It's veteran minimums and trades.

I was thinking that too, but as I was trying to find out about it, the phrase I kept seeing about the MLE was that it was afforded "even to teams over the cap," which led me to believe that they all got it. But if what you say is true, then they are in an even tougher position as they would have to sign 7-10 D-league players to fill out their roster. The only player they have to trade is Beasley, and what could they realistically get for him?

There was a lot of Dream Team talk earlier in the thread. That was a team of 15 All-Stars. This is three All-Stars and 10 sub-NBA talents. This really sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. I can't believe that they are all on board with this.

I'm done listening to the rumors. It seems clear that his camp has been pumping out a lot of misinformation, intentionally, to keep the media off track.

    We went from:

He's leaving the Cavs for sure (playoffs)
He'll probably go to the Bulls (World Wide Wes)
Maybe he will reup with the Cavs and bring in Bosh or Amare
He'll go with the Bulls and bring in Boozer
He'll stay with the Cavs and they'll trade for Chris Paul
    to
OMG Hes in an Emp1r St8 of Mind!!1!!
    to
    He's leaning towards Miami

at this point, I think he is going to Chicago and flooded the internet and media with phony reports to help ensure his megalomaniac press announcement ESPN special remains a "shocker"

And Deez too. LeBron does not realize that he doesn't have *it*. He's a marvelous player, but it's not like the smooth I've-never-seen-this-before-and-I-want-to-go-try-that-move-in-my-driveway panache that Dr J and Jordan offered boys and men under 30 everywhere.

So he manufactures a "brand" to become an icon. Maybe I'm just too old, and I'm sure he'll make a lot of money, but it just looks pathetic to me.

Surely they won't leak the final decision until they have sucked the last drop of hype out of tonite's television spectacular.

I hope he has a table with 5 different hats on it like a 17 year old signee, that would be fresh. Pick one up and set it down, then pick up another one.

    Give me Moses Malone and 4 Calvin Murpheys and I'll beat them every time;
rebound and run until the big three are puking. With no bench they will be helpless in the 4th quarter.

Let them play together....they will get far but doubt a dynasty. Remember Lebron personifies King James, not Prince James. Unless one of the 2 (wade/james) modifies there role it won't work. Like Having Peyton Manning and Drew Brees together
