Right, so he's not Derrick Rose. That doesn't mean he's Nate Robinson either. Aaron Brooks, when not sucking this year, has shown to be an above-average player in this league. He's come up huge for us in the playoffs and has hit several game winners. No, he's not as good as Derrick Rose or McGrady. But so what? He's still damn good -- we're losing a big offensive talent if we deal him.
Brooks' tantrum is just a distraction from the real subject of conversation here. I believe Brooks was on his way out this season regardless because of Morey perhaps developing a MO of sorts. My thinking is roughly as follows: 1. Lowry got great money for a backup, but seriously underpaid for a starter. See Felton and Conley. Great money move here Morey. 2. Landry was traded before he was owed a big payday, potentially The same as brooks. this is where I think morey's value drafting really takes hold. Morey Finds these great role players later in the draft, plays out their rookie contracts in a rockets uniform, and flips them for a solid return before he has to pay them a sizable contract. If Brooks go, I am lead to believe we will see budinger traded while he is still on his rookie scale.
1. Brooks is a restricted free agent after this season. Meaning the Rockets have the ability to match any offer he gets. More than likely his current production would warrant a MLE type of deal for 35-40 Mil for 5 seasons. The contract could also be amoritized in order to pay out a higher amount the next season when only half would be paid due to a potential lockout in the first half of the season. This contract would absolutely be signed by the Rockets even if they didnt figure him into their future plans beyond the next season. If he professionally asks the Rockets to not match the offer than they still dont have to do it, but probably would sign and trade him to the team of their choice. Thats if there were multiple teams driving up the price. That Scenario would work out best for both parties if they wanted to part ways. It could be possible too that the Rockets plan on resigning him if the price is very good for them and could trade him the next season when his value is much higher. 2. His value is concieved in his on the court production vs. his contract. Right now his value is hard to determine because he is A. not playing up to his potential, and B. in a RFA contract year which causes buyer to be very aware that he could warrant a contract next summer that is much more than he is making now and cause them to loose him for nothing or overspend to keep him. That gamble is way less risky for the Rockets because they have such great depth at the PG spot already and should still be able to sign and trade him under the new CBA if they want to part ways with Brooks. -The Rockets front office realizes that he didn't all the sudden just forget how to play the game and are confident he will eventually regain his form from the past two seasons. At that time his market value will be significantly higher and he could be moved easily if they wanted to move in another direction at that time. If not he is still a great value player.
He's a good deal closer to Nate Robinson than he is to Derrick Rose. I say that aside from teh fact that both are sub 6-foot guards whose strength is scoring:
Please stop hyping Morey as some sort of genius. It doesn't stick for what the Rockets have accomplished on the court. Which is zero! The Rockets are worse off now than every and it's looking bleak for the next 2 or 3 years unless the find a defensive minded coach and players. Chuck and Lowry are hands down are best defensive players and that's not enough.
I would like to add that AB is definite liability on the defensive end and his decision making/passes are flat out horrible.
I agree with this. People have bad short term memory here. I'll go as far as to say we don't beat Portland 2 years ago without AB, and just Lowry (even the much improved one from this year) starting that series... Look, AB f'd up. Hopefully he learns from it. But we're not dumping him for a meaningless late pick.
I would trade Brooks for Mozgov. Obviously not too many fans here know anything about Mozgov. He is very raw in his skills and very limited on offense, but..... He is a legit 7-1, with a really strong body and he is an athletic freak. He is also a really physical player on defense and in rebounding. And even though he is very limited on offense, he is not soft on offense at all. He tries to dunk everything with force and he really fights for offensive rebounds. He also has a very small contract for a center.
First of all, Morey graduated from MIT and holds his conference on sports analytics- I think I can safely come up with a theory relating to his later draft pick strategy that revolves around buy low/sell high without pumping him to being a genius. Secondly, morey has been bounded by Yao. A player he had no hand in bringing to the rockets. I would say he has Done a great job in building a team around Yao. That team doesn't look so hot without Yao though, does it?
I want Chandler! I want Chandler! I want Chandler! I want Chandler! I want Chandler! I want Chandler! I want Chandler! I want Chandler! I want Chandler! I want Chandler! I want Chandler! I want Chandler! I want Chandler! I want Chandler! I want Chandler! I want Chandler! I want Chandler! I want Chandler! I want Chandler! I want Chandler! I want Chandler! I want Chandler! I want Chandler! I want Chandler! I want Chandler! I want Chandler! I want Chandler! I want Chandler! I want Chandler! I want Chandler! I want Chandler!... Anyoo...I want Chandler!
Yeah, the Knicks just don't have anything worth trading for IMO, at least nothing the Rockets really need that is.
We will match his offer sheet.........if he gets one............if he is still here. We will either S&T him to another team as part of a superstar upgrade or we will match his offer sheet and keep him and trade him later, unless he becomes more than we expect.
