LOL ... the gif doesn't show Battier was set before he collided with Odom.

    Nice try, though.

Yao is 7'6" tall.......and tried to take a charge from a small guard....

You don't seriously support him trying to draw charges do you? I'm hoping him getting called for blocking fouls when he tries to draw a charge, make him realize he needs to swat that stuff.

Deke won't be around to yell at him when he flops next season.

    Go Rockets!

At first I thought it was a blocking foul on Battier because it was so fast. But on the replay, dude was set. His feet were so quick to get there.

No I am not a particular fan of Yao drawing charges. I think you misunderstood. What I was saying if you compare the two plays, Yao appeared to be more "set" than Battier in his attempt to draw the charge, hence more legitimacy to be rewarded with a call in his favor.

Much better footage in the youtube video (thanks to bilaal14's thread) than the gif to show Battier was hardly set before he collided with Odom:

wnes, I couldn't disagree more. I watched the play several times on my DVR, in regular speed and slo-mo, and Shane just timed it perfectly. To tell you the truth, one of the reasons I did that was an attempt to figure out what the heck Odom thought he was doing and how he ended up on his back. The guy started to go up for a shot, hoping to get the and-one, and completely misjudged how quickly Battier could get in position. Repeat, Battier got there. Odom just blew the play. Falling on his back was one of those freak things. If you watch the replay, a ref was right there, watching it play out.

    Sorry, but you are wrong.

Personally, I don't care if he plays or not. Odom has tremendous physical skills, but he's also dumb as a post. More often than not, they balance each other out.

Game, set, match. Set before Odom even left his feet. Next topic.

The picture doesn't tell the whole story. Watch the video, you can see Battier was sliding his right foot when Odom jumped in the air, not to mention he (Battier) also moved his body to the middle.

wnes, no offense, but you are seeing what you want to see. Why you want to see what you want to see is beyond me! ;)

Well, after reading some explanations of the blocking/charging rule via googling, I think I shall reverse my stance on this particular one. But my point that many of Yao's blocking fouls (such as his blocking foul on Rudy Fernandez) are bogus still stands. The inconsistency of the calls on different players of the same play is very bothersome.

Kudos! You saw the light. And I agree with you about Yao and the bogus blocking fouls. Some of them were crazy. Maybe he's so big that the refs can't see the charge because of the "tree." (JK!) Battier's play, on the other hand, was legit, and thankfully the ref was right there to make the call.

No, he's not a Fakers fan. He's a fan of Yao and of the Rockets.

    edit: Can't stop watching this!!

I think Odom being out would put us in a bad situation as Lakers can now play denge (sp?). He's a bull dog that would kill our bench.

Odom and bryum both have been pretty ineffective at this point. Without Yao we have been going at full speed and show casing our altheticism. Which i think this is the single advantage we have and why we won game 4.

Can we duplicate game 4 on the road? My mind said we are done, however my heart says we can at least beat the lakers.

Who?!?! The Lakers don't have anyone on their team with a name close to that (the closest would be D.J. Mbenga).

Are you thinking of Luol Deng (he plays for the Bulls)?

"Odom was given pain pills — two big white ones, one half-green capsule, if you care — to take in preparation for the flight home"

Well now I just envy him. If I were Lamar I'd just get some more of those pills and chill on the bench the rest of the playoffs. Maybe grab one of those nice BBQ beef brisket sandwiches for game 6 too.
