Guaranteed Contract vs. Non-guaranteed Contract, probably.

if you waive a player you still need to pay them. Ward still has one year left on his contract and Barrett only had the rest of the season. It was much cheaper to waive Barrett over Ward.

hold on, if they just released Barrett, who was on the injured list, activated Moochie and placed Juwon on the IL, that leaves an IL spot open. So my guess they will sign a PF and put Baker on the IL? Or can they put Moochie back on the IL so soon?

It is now clear - CD and JVG want to pickup a PF from the available free agents, CBA or NBDL.

Like I hinted in another thread, Barret is about the only "waivable" commodity that can be dicarded in order to make roster room for a 10 contract kinda guy (PF). If Juwan did not get injured like he did, Andre would have finished the season with this team.

So expect a new player (albeit temporary help) within the next week.

My best wishes to Andre Barret and I am grateful for what he contributed to our team.

PS. I hope CD invite Andre for the ring presentation ceremony this coming November.

he is already on the IL

its now Ward, Howard, with one spot open

as of now, the are 12 players on the active roster including Moochie, so if they sign someone else, someone else is going to the IL.

In that case he will be less attractive now because he will not be available or elligible for the playoffs roster if my understanding of how it works is correct.

Now why did the Wizards waive him?

Too bad we signed Braggs, IMO S Walker would have helped more. But, then they don't pay me to make those decisions.

I never really cared for Samaki Walker's game. I always thought the only reason he stayed in any rotation was playing next to Duncan/Shaq.

As far as Barrett, I hope he finds some team that needs a backup PG. He's not a bad player...probably needs to work on his defense. He just wasn't the type of PG that Van Gundy likes, and when you have 6 PG's on the team Barrett is the easiest to get rid of with his salary.

Are they making room to bring back Rod Strickland??

Just kidding- Barrettt was the lowest paid, so it makes sense, though I would rather keep him than Ward or Moochie-they get paid too much on guaranteed contracts....

Good luck to you Andre' you did fine and worked hard!

Barrett helped us in the dark days of the early season. If he can improve his outside shooting and defense he has a future in the NBA.
    I wish him good luck.
