I've seen Eddie working out with Lucas at least a half dozen times at Rice University over the past month. He does look to be out of shape. They were doing one-on-one drills and some scrub was taking Eddie to the rack with ease.

This is good news actually. If Eddie's been working out since last month, and he keeps working out for the rest of the summer, he could be in damn good shape when training camp comes around.

Apparently, he's also playing at Fonde, so that should help.

As long as he's improving his fitness and getting stronger physcially and mentally, he has a future in the NBA. There's no easier place to do it than on Jason Kidd's team - all you need to be able to do is jump high.

Why isn't he in good shape now? What the hell else has he had to do for, oh, maybe the past year or so? I know rehab is tough but come on -- the guy is trying to make it back to the NBA; being in shape is a pre-requisite, especially if you have thrown away as many chances as he has

This just reeks of "kenyon and jefferson are only good cuz of alley oopz" style sour grapes. That's the kind of thing I used to think and say back in 2001 when I was pissed that Jefferson turned out to be good and Griffin was unimpressive, and I was bitter about it. But it's just not true; both of these players were effective and had big games even when Kidd was out this year.

It just doesn't work that way; you can't put Kenny Sky Walker on the Nets and expect him to turn into in all star; Jason Kidd has played with a lot of players in his career; I don't recall any who he singlehandedly propped up, and I don't think Griffin will be one of them.

seems surpising between Fonde and Lucas that Griffin would out of shape phsically... for me the bigger problem is Griffin's head, where's that at?

I can't believe that SamFisher had to go and crap all over Kenny Walker. He doesn't deserve your wrath.

Just because you paid hundreds of dollars for scalped slam dunk contest tickets back in 89 doesn't mean you have to get all huffy...

EDIT: on second thought, I was just browsing over at www.kennywalker.com and I think I know the real reason why codell is upset...and why he was planning a trip to Massachusetts with him!

What I said was that, if you're athletic, you will look good on Jason Kidd's team and that's a fact. There is no arguing that.

K-Mart knows what he's doing - he's going to the Buggets where they run like hell as well. I'd love to have him on the Rocks, but had he started his career with a team that plays the halfcourt offense, he never would've gotten a MAX deal. But Jason Kidd jump-started his career, and it helped a great deal that K-Mart was able to latch on to so many alley-oops.

The one series I remember is always the Nets-Pacers series a couple of years ago where O'Neal made him look so damn normal because the Pacers slowd it down.

Again, I think he's great - lots of hear, lots of hustle, and lots of talent. But he's not a MAX player unless he's playing with Jason Kidd.

As long as you have hops, you can do better on Kidd's team than any other team.

Jefferson fit that mold when he first came in, but he's worked tremendously on his game and now he's able to do lots on his won - all he needs to do is improve his handles and he'll be a complete player now.

Expect more minor signings to come (Nets) also have their eyes on Eddie Griffin...

Nets size up Krstic, Davis By OHM YOUNGMISUK
    DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER

One is a 7-foot European who is one or two sizes too small for an XXXL T-shirt. The other is a raw and undrafted 6-10 shot-blocker.
The Nets introduced their two new rookie big men yesterday: 2002 first-round pick Nenad Krstic and Auburn rookie Kyle Davis. The problem for the Nets and Jason Kidd is that neither is Kenyon Martin.

"They're building blocks for us," Nets GM Ed Stefanski said. "(Davis) is real athletic, a runner, jumper, block shots. (Krstic) is a very skilled player on the offensive end, works extremely hard. We took a step back (trading Martin) but we feel we are going to take a couple steps forward down the line."

Expect more minor signings to come that will include free-agent swingman Rodney Buford. The Nets, who can extend Richard Jefferson's and Jason Collins' contracts starting Aug. 1, also have their eyes on Eddie Griffin and Ron Mercer.

These are not the types of players Kidd wants. The point guard, who is still vacationing out of the country, is upset about losing Martin. However, unless the 31-year-old Kidd, who is recovering from knee surgery, can be dealt to a team like Dallas, the franchise star will have to get used to passing to Krstic.

"I wanted to play with (Martin), but he's gone," said Krstic, who signed a three-year deal with the Nets after paying $750,000 of his own money to complete a $1.1 million buyout from his Partizan club.

Krstic, who will play for Serbia and Montenegro's Olympic team, has drawn comparisons to Rasho Nesterovic with a better low-post game, according to his agent. Krstic, who was selected 24th overall, also has impressive shooting range, making a few three-pointers yesterday.

He may have to make a few more next season if the Nets trade Kerry Kittles, who may be dealt to the Clippers for draft picks or to Cleveland for Dajaun Wagner in a deal that could also include Eric Williams.
