Hey guys, I just saw something on CNN about the new Yao commercial for Gatorade! Its part 2 of that "Can Jimmy Play??" commercial with Yao last year. This time its Jimmy playing 2 on 2 basket ball with Yao Ming, Jason Kidd, Vince Carter, Peyton Manning, and Lisa Leslie. And all their moms are calling them to come home. Its supposed to be really funny. I couldn't see it but was listening to the T.V., but there was an article on it if you Google-- Yao Ming. It said that it was the highest rated commercial among teenagers. The story is on the 10th or 11th page of the Google search since most of the Yao stories was on that boring-ass Rookie Challenge.
All-Star Athlete Cast Shoots Sequel to the Highest Rated Gatorade Commercial In Company History Friday February 13, 6:00 pm ET NBA Superstars Yao Ming, Vince Carter And Jason Kidd Team Up With WNBA Superstar Lisa Leslie and NFL Co-MVP Peyton Manning in New Gatorade Commercial 'Playmates 2' LOS ANGELES, Feb. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- All-Star athletes will once again be asking "Can Jimmy play?" as Gatorade shoots a follow-up spot to its successful 2003 commercial "Playmates," which portrayed a young boy's ultimate sports fantasy of having star athletes knock on his front door to invite him outside to play. The original ad, "Playmates 1," which featured Yao Ming, Peyton Manning and Derek Jeter, scored an unprecedented perfect rating for "Likeability" among teen audiences, while also scoring the company's highest test rating ever among adult audiences.(1) This overwhelming response inspired the making of a sequel, appropriately named "Playmates 2." In "Playmates 2," the ultimate sports fantasy continues as Yao and Peyton return, joined this time by NBA All-Stars Vince Carter and Jason Kidd and WNBA All-Star Lisa Leslie, who also want to know "Can Jimmy play?" In the new spot, the story takes a humorous twist, as a 2-on-2 match is cut short when the superstar athletes are beckoned home for dinner by their mothers. "The original 'Playmates' ad was such a success that we couldn't wait to bring Jimmy and his All Star friends back," said Cindy Alston, vice president, communications and equity development, The Gatorade Company. "Playmates' success is that it entertains the kid in all of us while communicating that Gatorade fuels Jimmy to keep playing no matter how many star athletes appear on his doorstep." The star-studded :30 second sequel was shot in LA on February 12-13, just prior to the NBA All-Star Game and is scheduled to debut this spring. The ad was created by Element 79 Partners/Chicago, and directed by David Kellogg, who also directed "Playmates 1." Some kid named "Jimmy" wants to play *like* Lisa Leslie? I'd figure Shaq before Lisa...guess since it was shot in LA...they threw her in there.
I don't think it can be better than the Reebok commercial of an animated Steve Francis vs Baron Davis. Man, that commercial is sooo damn cool!
Is it that NBA Street knock-off one. I thought that was pretty cool, too, but honestly I thought the first "can Jimmy plaY" commercial was hysterical. Especially when Yao tore the rim down - he looked so goofy doing it.
yao standing there holding the goal is hilarious and then how he says "oops" is even better. more like "epps" or something.
