The turn on thing was a exaggeration I admit because it is similar to my computer analogy. Because you buy a computer for multiple reasons and if it just decided you didn't have internet and thus won't turn on is similar to a game console decided you don't have internet so you can't play your games. It's all a rumor but they are building a game console first, I hope they remember that. It's also dangerous to assume that they know what they are doing because I'm sure Maxis knew what they were doing with Simcity (but they did not). A computer is pointless without internet true but not pointless if you were to lose your connection for whatever reason. I can think of many times I didn't have internet access for whatever reason but I was still able to enjoy games that either were just single player or had a good singleplayer mode. Again if they are doing this for some big benefit then sure, lets see what they do with it. Similar to how a MMO game works, being always online for a game like Guild Wars 2 is a benefit for everyone...but if this is some DRM thing then it's horrible...and a subscription too? Seriously? It's so hard to believe that's true because I doubt that's going to work out for Microsoft, especially if the PS4 falls in the same price range.
LOL really? haha okay.... Dont b mad bro. What I said is the truth but go ahead, I would love to hear your point of view. Teach me the way of the smart realist.....
I agree that his statement is silly. But I think he meant to go to the extreme of a computer NEVER connecting to the internet. It's hard to imagine a computer being useful then but yeah you could still find some use for it. But I know that during hurricane season and the power goes out the first thing I go for is the laptop because I know I can play games on it. Also I know some people play NBA 2k12 here and that whole thing with MyCareer mode is that you have to be connected to the internet to play it...if you drop your connection and save the game then your currency goes to SP and not VC and this is a big problem. This has been a major annoyance for me, I don't have all the time in the world to just play it when I want to but when I do get the time I expect it to play...and 2Ks servers are not very reliable.
You are right, if a computer loses internet it can still function and play single player games all the programs in it will still work but for how long can a computer stay useful to someone who uses it for entertainment. A workstation like the one I am using now will be useful to me in a production way because of what I do but even then without internet I am losing content that I need. But for someone who uses a computer for entertainment purposes and communication it just wouldnt work. If they feel like down times will not be a problem than most likely it will not be a problem. Chill , get the new xbox and all will #be well
The no used games thing is annoying. I play offline 90% of the time on the xbox. Only get on it for multiplayer or game updates/dlc.
Murphy's law is the problem though. Simcity guys PROMISED that connection would be just fine! Xbox live can and will go down. You know it's pretty rare (at least in my experience) but it's never been that big of a deal because I could still play it. If the rumors are true then the Xbox will then be made useless as I wait for it to come back online. http://www.destructoid.com/typical-xbox-live-downtime-leads-to-xbox-live-problems-136604.phtml A whole day offline? I know "Go do something else!" but one whole day will cause an uproar. Every time it goes down it will be a thing. May some god have mercy on their souls if they have any major issues with their service at launch because that first impression will stick to the console forever. But the service can just go down, nothing is perfect.
Its funny? I laughed... It was funny.... Okay, look..... I dont know why this is such a huge deal. I'm sure that the new xbox is going to kill the ps4 just like the xbox360 did.... I dont even know why I'm arguing about this. Its so pointless. I havent used my xbox in such a long time. I will get the new one just because I want one but I play more pc games.... Still this system debate shouldnt be something to be crying about and getting mad.... I aint even mad...
As far as I know, MS has not refuted the rumor that the 720 will disable any used games from running on the system. Sony has refuted that same rumor. An always connected requirement would be the only way to enforce a used game ban. Let's see. Things a computer can do without internet connection that is "entertainment". Single player games Watch movies from disk or over local network Listen to music from disk or over local network You know normal things it could do before the internet and when you use to own the things you buy.
Lol the Xbox didn't kill the PS3.. Nice try trolling though, I guess you love DVDs instead of blu-rays too.
If the answer is no to playing 360 games, then there's almost zero chance i buy one of these anytime soon.
Look, it's actually quite simple. It's the principle of the thing, ok? #1: If I buy a piece of hardware, my expectation is that I will be able to USE it, and that it WORKS, regardless of whether I happen to want to have it connected to the internet at any given time. Those who keep saying 'Who doesn't have internet these days?' are entirely missing the point. #2: Having an 'always connected to the internet' requirement does not benefit ME, THE CUSTOMER, AT ALL. Therefore, it must in some way benefit Microsoft and/or the game vendors. I resent being *required* to operate MY hardware in a certain potentially annoying and inconvenient manner simply for the convenience/benefit of the people who SOLD it to me in the first place. That is not their prerogative to demand that I adhere to some sort of requirement of theirs, just so they can potentially make more money. #3: It is intrusive. It is not Microsoft's role in this world, to force me to have an always-connected-to-the-internet piece of electronics in my home. Maybe I don't WANT something like that in my house. #4: There is nothing legitimate they can achieve by requiring it to be always connected that that can't just as easily achieve by the 'whenever the customer wants to connect the damn thing' model used now on the 360. This means that their aims are not what I would consider legitimate. Example: prohibiting the use of previously-purchased game discs. #5: Technology NEVER works 100% of the time the way it is promised to work. This means that it is a GUARANTEE that there will be times that YOU cannot play with YOUR expensive console, and the expensive game disc in it, because some server farm somewhere is having 'issues', or some shmuck with a backhoe decides to take out your internet capabilities for a few days. That is not ok. How many more reasons do you need?
If you have to say "I ain't even mad" that means you probably are. I have an Xbox and have never had internet connection for it. I play sparringly when my schedule allows and really have no use for online play the way other geeks with no life would. Even now it limits some of the things I can do with games. For instance I can't create my own player in 2K13 without an internet connection which I thought was dumb. But oh well, it won't ruin my day. Your hate against Xbox is obvious and it's cool cause no one really gives a crap, I mean a game system is a game system. Strictly for entertaining purposes no?
Here is another reason. The PSN networked was hacked into (man that feels so long ago) and was offline for like an entire month. If something similar happened to this next Xbox... Also that people in the Army and such overseas don't have access to the internet. That reason alone should be reason enough.
