it is a shame that the people who authorized all this stuff get off free, while all the low-level lyndie englands get punished.

bush, cheney, rumsfeld, gonzales and yoo should all be held accountable for authorizing torture and literally changing the definition of what torture is. forget international law, under our own laws they should be subject to the death penalty. unfortunately, we have a president now who says we should not look back - just forget about it.

none of this is new news though - we have known for years that u.s. troops raped, sodomized and murdered detainees. all this stuff was coming out while bush was still in office.

this country really has its priorities screwed up - there are far too many who seem to be ok w/ torture, but the minute we get health care reform its nazi germany.

The reports said the iraqis were the ones doing the torturing. It is their country. Is the US going to police their police? We should have just left saddam there. Those people deserve a guy lie him.

this particular video focuses on iraqis doing the torturing, but it is well documented at this point that the bush administration authorized torture and had their lawyers change the very definition of the term. it is also well documented that u.s. military personal and private contractors have committed acts of rape, sodomy and murder of iraqi prisoners.

We went in there in the first place to "police their police."

I haven't had time to go through this since I heard, but the number I heard for previously under-declared victims is one 9/11 every 4 months for 6 years.

This allegedly includes a pregnant woman shot on the way to delivering.

Somehow I don't buy that a country would lie this much knowing the truth will come out eventually.

    War crimes.

If Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Blair invade a country and have de facto power and authority over it, they have de facto responsibility and accountability for what happens in it.

The world needs to have a Nuremberg 2010 / 2011 war crimes trial and hang these bastards because 200,000 dead Iraqis are waiting for them in Heaven (or Hell) would like to have them in a room for just 5 minutes.

The US doesn't give two ****s about the Middle East. They just want to secure the oil market.

Yeah, a bunch of symbolic gestures with no effort or meaningful effect sounds about right.

I truly appreciate the spirit of Wikileaks goal, as long as truly sensitive information is kept out of the public eye; but Assange's decision (apparently made by him alone) to release the Afghan documents without redacting the names of Afghanis who were cooperating and giving intel to NATO forces is completely unconscionable. There will no doubt be reprisals and it will have a cooling effect on future cooperation. Apparently this has caused many of his former supporters/collaborators to turn on him.

Unfortunately none of this is stuff that hadn't been known before.

Not trying to justify any of this but given Iraq's history and the inherent problems (not to forget very poor planning) with occupying a fractious country abuses like this were almost inevitable. This is another reason why war should never be undertaking except under the most pressing and dire of circumstances. We didn't have any of that with Iraq.

I actually don't blame Obama for this. He had enough problems coming into office, and still does, and the spectre of prosecuting high ranking members of the previous Admin. very well might paralyze the government.

I don't think we should forget about those things, and I doubt Obama feels that way, but this will be left to the judgement of history which will not hold the Bush 43 Admin. in a good light.

Absolutely amazing how little coverage this is getting. But I have seen countless articles evaluating Assange's personal life.

Nixon would be proud. Our press is not free, and sucks.
