I didnt mean to sound like you didnt...;)

It is generally frowned upon in the whitehat community to do stuff like this, but thats only because they dont want to be associated with activities (in public anyway) that the bad guys do.

I have had discussions with guys that had the skillset to do something like this, but they wouldnt do it for fear of the FBI coming after them..
Looks like someone finally said screw it and did it anyway.

I applaud them, there are too many people that wont apply the patches even if they know about the danger of not doing so.

I hate when people think I don't know things..IT MAKES ME ANGRY! YOU WOULDN'T LIKE ME WHEN I'M...Oh wait, nevermind...I've seem to misplaced that YoYao Hulk pic I was going to use. Never mind.

Kind of phrased my thoughts in the wrong way. Sounds like I had a problem or something. Maybe all that 19-10 stuff automatically makes me phrase things so that I'm always agitated. ;)

Yeah, just about everybody I know do not keep up with their patches and don't even have virus scanners and firewalls. Maybe now they can stop complaining about their computers not working. :)

Even though I dont mean to, sometimes I come off like a teacher when I actually know about the subject being discussed. I hate that!:(

    Touche! :D
feel free to give me hell about the pathetic game last week.

True, if everyone would listen when the computer guys say to install the patches, and keep your AV definitions updated, and use a free personal firewall this worm would have had ZERO chance of effecting anyone.

oh well, gotta keep the techs busy dont we? They need to be paid.

I got several myself saying I sent some, this virus spoofs your email address. Spoof means that they send an email as you, but you never sent it. I think you are ok. But check the link from R2K to be safe.

From my post above about this new virus :

The worms that are out right now are wreaking havoc on systems here at the college I work in. Students can't register, we can't look up records, our web pages are being affected ranging from slowness to absolute meltdown. Sucks having to rely on computers to work.

Somebody at work today was hit with either a virus or worm. When I went to check my e-mail it had like 40 e-mails inside my junk mail saying that none were delivered because there was a virus on my system. Does that mean I have a virus or that there was one detected on my company network? I'm not sending or receiving any of my e-mails and it's really frustrating. Any help? :(

Me too. I've had to delete like 45 emails that says "RE: My Details". It is hitting the server that runs Windows NT. I use a Mac, even at work. If only the whole world used Macs...

If the whole world used Macs then virii writers would write virii that affected Macs.
Dont fool yourself, Macs can be gotten to, there just isnt enough of them in use across the worlkd to make it(virus writing) worthwhile.

Windows has so many virii written for them not only because of security holes, but because they hold such a large market share. Another factor is the relative stupidity of the avergae Winblows user...most of them are so easy to fool into sprreading the infection thru their own actions.

    Yes...do not open those.

anything with attachments that are .pif,.scr, or of course the normal .exe,.com, etc...are probably bad news also.

edit: read my last post before this one...click the link and read it.

    Smeg....
if it was quarantined, and you deleted the file..you are probably ok..check the link I gave you and see if there are any tell-tales that it descibes to make sure it didnt spread.

My wife is getting those same emails, "wicked screensaver". She has a mailbox that she hardly uses, yet this morning, she has like 100 emails waiting for her.

In addition to that, she got an email this morning from a client stating that an email was sent from my wife to her and that it contained a virus. Thing is, my wife never sends emails from that address.

    Any advice R2K?
