I'd say a decade worth or technological, especially in in terms of visual media, is plenty of time for an upgrade.

How often do you purchase a tv? Same thing, different scale.

Ah, so the Rockets have the largest scoreboard in north american arenas. While the Texans will have the largest scoreboard in U.S. football stadiums. Awesome.

It's nice for fans that there will be a new scoreboard, but it is total BS that the county is footing the bill. Considering the fact that McNair's wanted a $150 million retractable roof that never gets used and his hand picked stadium construction team screwed up the architecture measurements so that they can't grow the grass indoors and thus the field never grows together properly, Bob should cut that check himself. The Rockets paid for the TC renovations this off season and I see no reason why the Texans should not have done the same.

This idea that the scoreboard will help Houston get the Super Bowl is horse bleep. Houston is competing with Miami. Miami's scoreboard is nothing special. Miami's stadium is nothing special. Houston's problem in attracting Super Bowls is that it's not a tourist destination and it is so spread out. It has nothing to do with facility upgrades.

yeah that big screen is why we can't get the superbowl, lol. I guess whatever it takes to bid just for the chance to have the superbowl again.

I heard you say this this morning on the way to work and could not agree more. Idiotic to say this is a ploy to get the Super Bowl here. I'm pretty sure a large TV is exactly what will sway them. JFC.

I actually see this as a reason FOR upgrading the stadium.

Houston will never be able to compete with Miami, San Diego, or New Orleans as a destination city. However, all the above cities have older stadiums that are no longer state of the art.

The ONLY thing this city can offer is a state of the art stadium, and state of the art facilities overall (convention space, hotels, media accomodations, etc.).

At the very least, this puts them on par with any bid from Arlington/Dallas... and they're an example of a city that has nothing to offer compared to Miami (and are even more spread out than Houston), but will always get consideration because of their stadium.

They have it now... for non Texans games.

Only a matter of time before they convert everything over. Wouldn't be a big deal since the Texans bubble features field turf.

It would have made a lot of sense to have had some kind of contingent funding. More complicated, sure, but a lot of sense.

Superbowl in Houston in the next [7] years... city pays for the scoreboards.
No Superbowl awarded, Bob pays for the upgrades.

some of you guys just can't be happy about anything.

Do you even know the status of the county's finances? If indeed this does help us get another Super Bowl, are you aware of the economic impact to the city?

Some of you would argue "screw the rich fat cat McNair" (who by the way brought NFL football to Houston against all odds) rather than be happy we're getting a world class video board.

I could not care less about the board. I watch from my man cave where I have my cold beer, popcorn, big comfy chairs, nachos, wings and my own PRIVATE bathroom, which means I don't have to stand in a stall in a puddle of piss from drunks.

I agree with this most of the time. It sucks going to a game where it's a blowout and/or there isn't any energy. I've been fairly lucky in games and have caught some high energy games. Nothing will top being there for the playoff victory. I still get goosebumps just thinking about it.

We will get a Super Bowl before 2020. In fact, as soon as the Metro Rail expansion is completed.

    That seems fair.

Light rail expansion is supposed to be done by 2017, IIRC.

That will help with the bid for sure.
