JVG is working with him... His D will be consistently good... If he can improve his FG % things will be good for him... It would also be nice to put it in perspective and see how he's doing compared to other rookies...
Spanoulis already has the ability, or rather the mentality to play good defense(half the defense is in wanting to play it), JVG is just aware of that and prolly trying to help him the best he can. There are other areas that have to be developed, but I wouldn't expect them to develop overnight as some might. Especially his shooting, he's just not a good shooter, but good in penetrating, like others spotted as well. I think 3point shots can be improved, but I wouldn't expect him to become a jump shooter easily. He must work with his passing and sharpness and speed to overcome those drawbacks, and I believe he will be able to do so and be a far more useful weapon for the team. JVG, he's the coach, and it's his tactics. It's usual in Greece to play mind tricks with your players so they don't fall back and relax, I wouldn't worry about it. Truth is he might wanted to show off, but that's easy to correct if it's a problem, he's no dummy. It's more of a problem to me, that those carrying the "TO machine" bon-bon in their mouth, do not on the other hand have ANYTHING of praise to say in his good games, or at least those games he didn't make so many mistakes. Focusing in only the things you don't do good doesn't always work in improving them, everyone needs some well deserved praise. Plus that very few were born winners. A coach can say a lot about players, cause he has a certain model of the team and the players on his mind. He might say those things to boost them up even, or in order to help them. Whereas a fan is supposed to encourage, i'm sure players read this board from time to time, it's up to us to give them some positive or negative boost, which is best for the team. A "this is my story, and i'm sticking to it"(pre-season games, TO etc) isn't going to help the guy, criticize him for now and here, not some insignificant. practice games.
