The difference here is that DLP tv lamps burn out/flake on you. Some people have had to replace these as frequently as every year to every 3-4 years. The cost to replace them is $200-$400 from what I recall. An extended warranty from Best Buy used to cover the lamp replacement (don't know if this is still true), so the extended warranty was almost a no-brainer. The extended warranty probably would have been less than the cost to replace the lamp.
dude its exciting moving to the world of HDTV. its like your team was terrible so you go to the NBA draft and you get Yao and you cant wait to see him play!
I wasnt very excited before you got me all fired up But now I have to call Charter cable and get HDTV ( Been getting free basic for 2 1/2 years now ) When i moved in it was just working......... I already tried satellite, but they said the trees around my house mess everything up.
I heard that too...My big monster was refurbed and had it since 98'...Didn't buy the warranty, but if I did, it wouldn't have lasted 8 years...I would like a new one but would have to do research if I would do a refurb. again...
make sure you connect with an HDMI cable to your new cable box, most likely they wont give you the cable, you have to buy it. its the best connection you can get. you can go to walmart or target and a cheap brand cable for under $30 (monster brand is way overpriced $100) http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5000839
looks like tigerdirect got more refurb samsungs they have 46in for $699 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1362673&CatId=0
Definitley buy the warranty if you go DLP. I have a 62" DLP, and my lamp went out two weeks ago. I bought the TV from BEst Buy last Christmas. I did get the warranty, it was 300 for 4 years including lamp replacements. The lamp went out on a Saturday night. I called BB immedialey, and Monday at 8am, they came to my place, replaced the lamp (took 5 min.), then left. So painless, and soo easy. Plus, with DLP's, you can watch TV on high or low power lamp mode. High mode obviously looks better because the screen is much brighter. It decreases the life of the lamp. When the BB guy came over, he suggested that I use low power instead, but then he remembered I had the warranty, so he advised me to just leave it on high b/c all lamp replacements are covered and free. I always had it on high anyways, but my point is just to say GET THE WARRANTY!
