I'm not really against this idea either considering Gordon is better than T-Mac right now and is on pace to hit the 80-game barrier in 4/5 NBA seasons so far. It's just the idea of him being an unrestricted FA at season's end that bothers me.
Check out Gordon's stats this year: http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3820/gamelog;_ylt=Aojz5xBXsBPrGbVtMWbJPQz1PKB4 he is doing way better than I thought. Hmm, this is looking better to me especially because we get rid of T-Cancer.
No way Phoenix takes on $9 million more in salary than it sends out, as it is over the luxury tax threshold and its owner is broke. Additional $9 million in luxury tax penalties: TRADE = FAIL.
Let's not forget that Gordon would get open looks from Yao, he is not the part of the deal I have a problem with..... We still need a good PG though. DD
I agree about Hinrich and Gordon (and just think, last year we were saying no to Billups and Hamilton, or any twosome of Billups Sheed Hamilton and Prince!). At this point, who can say realistically that T-Mac is our current #2 player on the team, or that he will become the old T-Mac in the playoffs? He's officially dmged goods, and if we can add guys like Hinrich and Gordon to a team that still has Yao, Artest, Scola, Battier, Landry, Brooks, Wafer, aka OUR CURRENT CORE TEAM, without losing anyone that is playing A MEANINGFUL ROLE on our current roster (hint, that's not you T-Mac), then what's wrong with that? All the pundits out there are saying T-Mac is untouchable not because we don't want to deal him, but because no one will take on his contract. I do this deal if I'm Houston (and I get at least 1 first-rounder): having Artest and Gordon come off the books in June would be a Godsend and immediately place us at the top of the list for potential free agents this and next year. And that's not even looking at the boost Hinrich would give to our weakest position. I'm not deluded enough to think that he is as good as he was two years ago, but even that should represent an upgrade over Rafer. Plus, his contract is a declining one, giving us further flexibility in years to come.
I don't get it with you people!!!! If this is true this means we have a chance to unload the biggest problem with our roster. We get 2 pretty young players for the playoffs that can hit jumpers and still have a chance once 2010 comes round. Another plus we keep Artest and have both his and Ben's $$$ to play with after the season. In my eyes not bad at all.
I honestly think aaron brooks will be our PG next season. I wouldnt trade for a pg now since aaron will be ready to step up his game for next season. What we need to do is get rid of tracy and his god awful health issues and get 2 good role players(baron + kamen?) to complement Yao and resign artest for the next season
When I watch Kansas play last year and the year they had Nick Collins, it looked like they ran the same offense as JVG. Played inside n out. But everything you said right here is basically what Rafer Alston is to us. Now if he is all of that and consistent then that's another situation where I can say ok. But Also his contract is just wow. If they would even consider thinking about that they might as well look at Baron Davis also.
Alston and Hughes would be one of the least efficient backcourts in NBA history. But... I'd do this deal in a heartbeat. Even Hughes is better than McGrady right now. Gordon is much better. I'm not worred about the fact that his contract his expiring. I am worried about him being very undersized for his position and his inability to be an NBA PG. Hughes has $13 million or so coming off the books next season which is more than enough to be a player in the hype that is 2010 free agency. Any player that can run up and down the court is better than McGrady right now. That includes Ryan Bowen. If anybody is crazy enough to take McGrady's broken down body and his contract, we should do it.
I would take Baron and you are wrong about Rafer, he can not shoot..we have years of data proving that point. And these are not contested shots, he is missing WIDE open shots....Rafer is a bigger problem than many see, especially in the playoffs where he is left wide open on purpose. Kirk Hinrich = Kenny Smith. DD
LOL let me help you.... We unload the biggest problem with our roster??? I don't get that. Rafer would still be on the team so are we getting rid of our problems?? IDK if you guys see what I'm seeing but this is the same exact team we had last year except we added 2 guys. Artest and Barry. Barry would have been here last year but Yao situation happened. Barry doesn't play but come on if Artest can do all this damage then something is happening. We are only watching the games and looking at interviews. NO ONE KNOWS WHATS REALLY GOING ON INSIDE THE LOCKER ROOM!!!!!!
i have no issue with gordon actually its hughes i absolutely hate to have back HATE HATE HATE i would welcome Deng in a heartbeat despite is long term contract. hughes is downright terrible the only person i hate more than hughes on the bulls is noah. Hughes would bring negative value to the table. Morey is not an idiot he wouldnt do a trade like this unless there was something else. It also causes unnecessary depth that the SG spot where we would have gordon, hughes, wafer, barry and then possibly artest and head. makes no sense.
That's not too bad, actually. Both players could play minutes at the PG, if necessary. Hughes was at his best in a Princeton offense at Washington -- maybe he'd fit well with Adelman. I'd like it even more if their contracts were switched.
Hinrich is a glorified version of Rafer Alston, More consistent shooter and slightly better defense. He's not that special, but I wouldn't mind him either. It's just that Hughes needs to be traded in order for the Rockets to trade T-Mac.
I don't think we'll EVER get rid of that nusense til his contract expires. He just plain sucks. But now considering the fact that he is one of the top paid players in the league not playing and not givin a fu** he is our new #1 and not his jersey number. What a waste of $21 mill!!!
