We need to get the announcer who did Astros games in the 80's:

    "Three pointer by Jose Cruuuuuuuuuuuuz"

I wish they had done some open auditions, I would have shown up. Everyone tells me I have a fantastic radio voice. :)

It was the first game, but the announcer will the next annoying Rocket game experience thing to complain about (ie. Drummer Boys- "Big Bang") unless big improvement is shown by the end of the month.

How did they do the introductions? Was it with those drumming kids again?

    Perfect. Classic. Spot on.

Exactly what I was thinking as I have been
watching he during the haltime reports so far.
Hopefully she will polish up a bit, but as of now,
she comes across as 'somebody's little sister
got a hold of the microphone and they let her
run with it as a joke' kind of thing. Clearly
she has no actual training in this kind of profession.
But she's enthusiastic and pleasnt enough.
So maybe she will eventually straighten out and
    grow on us.

But so far, 'that dog won't hunt'. Has Malosky been
    hired by anyone else yet?

    ;)

I think they custom built a very small little area in the upper bowl for like 3 of the drummer boys to drum away during the game. But the first time that I even noticed them doing their thing upstairs was in the 3rd Quarter when the Toyota Center was extremely silent.

Introductions were simple, lights went out and the music was a good song that I cant remember. Announcer was mediocre at best but what can you do...

You can have auditions so AB and I can try out. I would wager that either of us would be more enthusiastic than the guy last night.

    AB, two words:

    Affirmative Action

Did they really get rid of Turbo???

From the video that rH shot, I thought the announcer was different. I suppose you guys think he isn't that great and I'll take your word for it.

But remember when Nanni replaced the last PA announcer (the guy who took over play-by-play duties at UH)? I certainly thought Nanni was dreadful. The previous guy was so much better. But I did get used to him.

So is this new guy one who can step it up in the future? Someone should go kick his ass.

I did not hear the "new guy" last night, as I was unable to attend the game and had family in the house drowning out the sound on the broadcast.

Having said that, I'll never forget when they had the open audition for the season before the new uni's, and Mario Nanni got the gig. The guy he replaced--950 AM KPRC's Matt Thomas--was INCREDIBLE. (Who can forget the way he begrudgingly introduced Shaquille before Game 4 of the '95 Finals?) And he didn't sound like he was some bellowing cave man, like Nanni.

Until I hear this new guy, though, I'll reserve judgment. But I've been wanting them to replace Nanni for a long time, preferably with Thomas coming back.

Guess I'll just stay tuned. But if they ever have an open audition, I'm ALL OVER THAT.

"come on sixth man, let me hear ya!"

    chirp, chirp, chirp....

i was at the game and this is what i was told by my friend in ticket sales.

    the PA announcer is temporary.

the rockets are trying to "empower the sixth man": make the fans/audience an active part of this team. tell that to the hundreds of fair weather fans who walk out with a 15 point deficit with seven minutes left in the game.

during each defense chant, he would try one "Defense!" then he would go quiet, and the crowd was not following his lead. he is weak.

great to be in houston for the first nba game in Toyota Center History, regardless.

Open auditions? They would only do that if the Rockets were about the city of HOUSTON...

Im sorry, but this new guy is horrible. Why do we have to try and be different? Mario Nanni had a great PA voice, there was no need for a change. I dont want to hear this new guy all year.

    How about Jamal Mag-le- or-ee

It's freakin' Ma glor. It was alot like that Southwest Airlines commercial when the announcer paused and them gave a lame effort at pronouncing that guys name. If this guy doesn't do a little research before the game it going to make for an interesting year. Just think what this guy is going to do with some of the more difficult european names.

Thank you... I hope this is true.

Matt Thomas was the BEST EVER (such a proffesional voice... anybody who misses him just watch 94 or 95 playoff games if you have them on tape).

I also gotta admit that the "sound bytes" were much better during the championship days (the tracks they play during the game action)... or maybe it was just because the place was ACTUALLY LOUD WITH FANS that I didn't notice them back then.

Allright, so who's going to start the 'Bring Matt Back' petition?

Hey, when the new guy is awful during the games, you can chant it.
