If we happen to trade Scola, i hope it nets us something worthy.

yeah i believe he's close to 6'9 ...i'm not sure why he's seen as a center at times either, maybe it's the positions he's been placed in before, but that may be part of the reason why he "sucked"...he needs to be a full time PF..

I think Dream is a bad example. You're right, Dream wasn't all athleticism, but he was very athletic. It was a large part of his game even though it didn't completely define him. That's why aging affected him so much.

Scola has never really been athletic. He's never really tried to be, or used athleticism as a significant part of his game. THAT is why he's not expected to slow down as much. He's effective against younger and athletic players now without having a hint of athletic ability in him, so why wouldn't he as he ages? Eventually yes, he will age so much that it won't be effective, but it's going to be a more gradual decrease and not a sudden decline like some of these other guys.

First of all, I seen this XM radio rumor before, and I really doubt its truth. I think if Bucher put that out there, basketball sites would have picked it up. So far its a rumored rumor. As far as your post, I think if Toronto wanted Pops or Iverson, they could have been had out right. So your theory is very sketchy.

I don't want to trade him, unless we are getting someone really productive who happens to be younger too, which seems highly doubtful.

Breaking Down the Move: Pops Mensah-Bonsu To the Houston Rockets

by Vikram Dimba (Contributor) Written on August 20, 2009

HOUSTON—NBA sources told FOX 26 Sports on Thursday that the Houston Rockets have reached a verbal agreement on a contract with free agent forward Pops Mensah-Bonsu, who has yet to sign the deal.

The first thing that popped into my mind as a Rockets fan is, why? The Rockets have many holes to fix, specifically awaiting the status of Tracy McGrady, and addressing the need of more depth at the center position.

"We are working to get through a couple of minor things that I'm sure will get resolved," said John Greig, Mensah-Bonsu's agent, in an interview with FOX 26 Sports.

"We are waiting on some things from the league that could impact this."

Don't get me wrong, I like what Pops brings to an NBA team: hustle, rebounding, and defense, while being one of those "energy" players off the bench that seem to change the pace or course of the game. But that's not what the Rockets lack at the moment.

Carl Landry provides the same role, but with a more effective offensive game. Having the consistency to knock down the mid-range shot out to 17 feet. Luis Scola is the starter, and is here to stay. While Chuck Hayes also fulfils a similar role in terms of rebounding, defense, and hustle off the bench.

There's certainly the option that he could play the center position standing at 6"10 inches, but if the Rockets brought him in to be a primarily backup center, I can't help but think there would have been better options with more size available.

It's not that Pops would be a bad fit, in fact he perfectly fits what the Rockets epitomize, but with an abundant depth at the PF position (Scola, Landry, Hayes, Cook), something tells me the Rockets off season isn't quite done yet.

Landry is better than Pops by a mile. I'm all for rebuilding but not throwing away our assets unless we get someone really good in return, doesn't have to be a star. None of our guys have that kind of a pull.
IMO,Cook and Barry will be staying, cause no one will want them.

Expiring contracts? Cook and Barry could be valuable salary filler in a trade...

Maybe this is setting up a trade from the old rumor of Stoudamire and players for Tracy and Landry. It would seem Pops brings pretty much the same thing as what the Bird Man gives you, hustle, boards, tap outs ect. Very hard to tell what Morey is up too, but you gotta think he's working on something maybe involving Landry.

I used a poor choice of words, any team will try to dump some junk in return for them, which won't help us IMO,or ask DM to pay their salaries ala Francis.
