I think there's more to it also...but it would not make sense to keep pops AND landry, as they are more similar than Scola and Pops. Scola's game isnt based on athleticism, so his age isn't a negative at this point. His ability to post up or face up, demand the ball, be a got to guy, is very very positive though, especially without Yao or tmac. Landry is close to or already at his ceiling, i think they'll include landry in some kind of trade and figure they can polish up Pops enough so that losing Landry won't hurt much.

Hillboy, you must not be following the New Economics of the NBA. Next summer, Erick Dampier's contract will be among the MOST attractive trade assets in the entire league (short of an actual superstar via S&T). His $13M salary for 2010-11 is completely non-guaranteed. That means that a team in financial turmoil can trade between $10.3M and $16.3M in salary to the Mavericks in exchange for Dampier and then INSTANTLY shed his contract from its payroll.

If Milwaukee was willing to part with Richard Jefferson in order to get Oberto's and Bowen's PARTIALLY guaranteed contracts (meaning that they and Detroit still ended up paying them some of their salaries), what do you supposed the Mavs could get for a huge, NON-guaranteed contract?

Mark my words. For as much as "Erick Dampier, The Player" sucks, "Erick Dampier, The Contract" will net the Dallas Mavericks one or more SIGNIFICANT assets.

i think that the idea is that they already have an offer on the table, so it's not that they signed pops first and then will try to trade Landry, but that they got an interesting offer for Landry and signed Pops to fill a void, that may explain why are signing him now and not prior to summer league...had this been done prior to summer league i think that would have meant they wanted to bring him in as a project..now it just seems like he's coming in to fill a void, and i dont think its the center spot.

So many players, so few roster spots.....

I like the signing, all i'm saying is it should be interesting to see Morey's plan for getting down to 15.

Wow, if the Iverson deal is true, what the heck are we supposed to do with all these players?

    6'10"?

Are my eyes deceiving me or is he more like 6'7"?

I remember when the Yao injury news first hit I looked up free agency to see all the possible replacements. Saw his name and got a little excited but when I started watching videos of him he looked more like a sf than a c/pf.

Obviously he doesn't have sf skills, I'm just refering to his size/build.

Hope were not trading Scola, but I don't think anyone would have a huge interest in Landry.

I'm not going to hijack this thread, but why do so many people think a guy that's already a avg to below athlete who is aging won't lose anything going against guys getting younger and are more athletic? Dream didn't rely solely on athletics, but as he got older, younger guys like Seikley and especially the shaq's and mourning used to beat him down the court and jump over him. This was dream, not scola. He is aging, but that doesn't mean he will fall off a cliff, but the object is to get the most value and get younger. Now i'm not saying scola is gone, I'm just saying he is in the last yr of his contract, he's turning 30 and will have a 6m cap hold next year. It makes sense that you trade scola vs landry, but that doesn't mean it will happen. Who knows, it might be a combination deal involved after this signing.

If we actually do trade Scola, you can bank that we are tanking this season.
