New Pops to the Rox rumor (UPDATE: Confirmed Rockets reach verbal agreement)

Unless Pops is being signed to a non-guaranteed contract... There could be a trade where either Scola, Landry, or Hayes is traded. It'd have to be some kind of 3 for 1 deal if they intend to keep White.

 

The only thing I can think of that would be causing a delay would be if the Rockets were trading Landry. They would have to wait until September 25 to trade him without his consent.

Of course, it could be that the Rockets are trading for another player currently under a trade restriction until a later date.

Or, this could all be BS.

 

Interesting, I wonder if this means Landry is being traded while his contract is low and his perceived value is high.

I just have a premonition that is what is going down. I really suspect there is a deal on the table for Ramon Sessions where Milwaukee S&T's Sessions for MLE type money to us for Landry and Lowry plus other filler.

I believe (and I hope) that Morey is trying to land Rubio, and if he can't get a deal done for Rubio, that he is going after Sessions with his backup plan. Since we are going to be an uppaced team, we have to get an efficient distributor. And these are the top 2 guys possibly available.

Pops will be signed in conjunction with a 2 for 1 or 3 for 1 trade, imo.

 

I strongly believe CL will not be a Rock by the time the Feb deadline passes.

Nice player, seems a good guy. Will make a team happy (and the Rox happy with the deal in which he is included).

 

Bucks have 16 guaranteed contracts. If they add another $5M (Landry + Lowry) they go over LT. They've also got 9 players who can cover PF. That said if Landry was dealt there he's likely competing with Warrick to start.

A Rubio trade could see the Rockets being sent more bigs than they need.

 

Reasonable post, and I agree with it essentially. Q: what team or teams have enough open roster spots to do a 3-1 deal? Knixies, Hawks, B'cats, P'tons, P'cers, Heat, 6ers all amybe/possibly/sorta somewhat could - but you'd have to either give someone good or take someone really bad back.

 

I bet White will be waived. I believe his contract this year is not guaranteed (or at least mostly), and I think I heard that he didn't impress over the summer.

 

Do we have the cash to get both AI and Pops?

 

Well I posted this at the Raptors board under a different username. They suggest a three team trade, which does make a lot of sense.

I like Carl Landry a lot, but with this year pretty much a wash, I am all on board with Morey remaking the team and dang the torpedoes full speed ahead.

HOUSTON - NBA sources told FOX 26 Sports Thursday the Houston Rockets have reached a verbal agreement on a contract with free agent forward Pops Mensah-Bonsu, who has yet to sign the deal.

Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey, who has not been available for comment, has been working this off-season to add depth to his front court with Yao Ming out for the year because of injuries and Dikembe Mutombo has retired.

Mensah-Bonsu is 6'10, 206 pounds.

He played in 12 games for the Dallas Mavericks during the 2006-07 season and split time last year with the San Antonio Spurs and the Toronto Raptors.

Mensah-Bonsu has career averages of 4.1 points and 3.9 rebounds after playing a total of 34 games over two years.

Back to our regularly scheduled programming: How do the Rox shed (at least) two excess contracts?

 

We need to get rid of Cook, Barry, and White... then the roster is set..
