As I thought might be the case, Pops's contract is non-guaranteed. And it will probably be either he or Dorsey that make it out of training camp. Maybe its a tactic to keep Dorsey motivated?

My wife & I are so glad the Rockets signed Pops!!!
We followed him a couple of years ago when he played with the Fort Worth Flyers (we're Metroplex Rockets fans, here) & enjoyed his intensity & energy. It's great when your favorite team signs one of your favorite players. How long is his contract? It looks like Joey Dorsey is going to sit another year.....

(It's a non-guaranteed contract. He would probably have to beat out Dorsey, who has a guaranteed contract, for a roster spot. -- Jonathan)

I concur! I checked out a few of your post and you are dead on! Les has been a definate superstar this off season, he has come through where other owners would be trying to cut salaries (see Drayton McClain). I think with the team they have assembled and if T-Mac comes back healthy, they can make the play-offs. Next year is going to be an exciting year, however, I am of the opinion that they should resign T-Mac. :D

Where was there a promise of playtime? Just because you have the opportunity to play does not mean you're somehow guaranteed playing time. Coaches do not make promises to bench and fringe players.

He's probably leaning more towards SA or DAL since he did mention somewhere so he can win a championsip. I still think we are the best TEXAS team no matter what

Probably so if he wants to win it all this season but I think we'll be the best Texas team next year.

Stephen Jackson would be nice to have. I wonder if Morey could be interested? He could be that third "star" we are looking for. Top defender, can create for others and himself. Interesting...

Shane for Captain Jack works in the trade machine...

    Aaron Brooks
    Stephen Jackson
    Trevor Ariza
    Luis Scola
    Yao Ming
    -------------------------
    Kyle Lowry
    Tracy McGrady
    Carl Landry
    Chuck Hayes
    David Andersen

I conclude that Stephen Jackson would fit like a glove, he is a warrior on the court, and matured now I think...

I would like to see McGrady traded for Jackson and Ellis. Both have long-term contracts and are excellent talents for a team that is struggling financially. I think it is a deal that could be swung if the Rockets were interested. With Pops Mensah-Bonsu possessing some similiar skill sets as Landry (minus Landry's excellent midrange game) I think this would open up the ability for the team to move Landry & Lowry OR Landry & Brooks in a package for a young or proven Shooting Guard.

I don't think that the contracts would work out but Landry, Brooks, Taylor & the addition of Cook's contract might be enough to get Kevin Martin out of Sacramento, though I consider him an untouchable on Sacramento's limited talent roster. If any deal was to be made with one of our guards I would prefer that Lowry be moved. I would love to see a backcourt duo of Ellis / Brooks for our Point Guard tandem and if you threw them on the court at the same time along with Ariza you would have one hell of an athletic and potent 1-3. Those three could get to the rim at anytime plus Brooks and Ariza are excellent long range shooters/slashers and Brooks and Ellis have very good mid-range games. Add that along with Scola's midrange game and ferocity around the basket and you have one hell of a 4 man rotation. Yao might slow that group down alot and Andersen is unproven so I am not sure who would play the five along with them but that would be fun to see.

Just as a thought, this would be a great team:

Point Guards:____Monta Ellis / Aaron Brooks
Shooting Guards: Kevin Martin / Stephen Jackson / Chase Budinger
Small Forwards:__Trevor Ariza / Shane Battier
    Power Forwards:__Luis Scola / Pops Mensah-Bonsu / Chuck Hayes
Centers:________Yao Ming / David Andersen / Chuck Hayes / Joey Dorsey

    Big Pipe Dream!

Well after lurking in the Warriors boards, they seem to like us a trading partner at least way more than Cleveland.

Shane for Stephen Jackson straight up.

Carl Landry + Cook for Jackson.

    Tracy for Jackson + Maggette

Three trades that were suggested so far in the forums by Warrior fans.

I'd do the landry deal. I wouldn't want to bring in Maggette to be honest. That guy is incredibly selfish.

This is not a Warriors thread or a Stephen Jackson thread. This is a Pops to the Rockets thread. Take your mancrush to the NBA Dish where it belongs.

Because you know measurables like height and wingspan are all this organization cares about...

If Pops' contract is truly nonguaranteed then that says to me that Landry is safe. Even though he's our best trade commodity at this point, I don't think Morey is ready to give up on an athletic PF that can do all the things Pops can while hitting that outside jumper and finishing in the paint like a menace. I'm looking for Landry to make a big jump with the increased PT this year--he doesn't need to expand his skillset, just the confidence to maximize it during the game. Defense is still an issue, but it is for David West too.
