I see reading comprehension is still a major issue with people on this board. If you read what I said instead of making things up, I said he's 6'9 like scola. I didn't compare his game to scola in the post. To compare what Duncan, a 7ft all time great to what scola, a role player, is crazy in itself. Duncan still demands a double team, duncan is also 7ft with long arms, and in his worse day and injured is still a better athlete than scola. As great as duncan is, he has trouble with the athletic types too. That's why he guards centers more today. Go watch the phoenix series when he could do nothing with amare. Go watch him struggle against Dirk. Father time stop for no one including the great ones.

Its not that I think athleticism makes you a great player, it just gives you a bigger ball of clay to work with. Your work ethic and studying of the game determines how great you will be. Do you think kobe, lebron,or wade would be as good as they are if they had average athleticism? Those guys are very sound fundamentally to go along with the explosion. No matter how sound those guys are, if they were shane battier in terms of explosion, balance, and footwork, they would be, avg players.

For some reason people on this board associate being athletic as a curse or dumb. I see it in their post with comments as if you can't be both. Its like if you're a ground hugger, you're smart, heady, and sound, but if you can explode, your bbiq is challenged and you're just a athlete. This is basketball, not golf or baseball and to have guys that can explode to the rim, get in transition, and finish around the rim without having to pump fake 50 times is important. Why do you think the spurs got rid of barry, bowen, and guys like that and replaced them with mason jr,jefferrson, and even mcdyess? Its because the good teams knew they could out athlete the spurs and beat them. I'm not saying every player has to be a high riser that don't know a play or where he has to be, but sometimes it comes down to a athlete making a athletic play. Ariza got a couple of steals and made some plays that only a athlete can make. Landry came in against La and got some offensive rebounds and powered back up. He made some plays close to the goal that scola could make because he can't explode. That's just a fact, but it doesn't mean he's not a good player.

Whatever makes the rockets a better team. It doesn't matter and I root for the rockets. Scola is a commodity just like everyone else wearing a jersey. Commodities are trade, released, and retired and that's just the business of it.

Just giving a heads up. There are some people who are unfamiliar with certain aspects of the game. And then there are some people who refuse to acknowledge that they don't know anything.

Don't get the two mixed up. :)

BTW, I live near where Brent Barry lived and he moved out and apparently is moving back to San Antonio. Retirement to be announced?

yup its true we are getting pops
they just reached a verbal aggrement
    http://www.nba.com/2009/news/08/20/mensah.rockets.ap/index.html
    this is what it said

The Houston Rockets have reached a verbal agreement on a contract with free agent Pops Mensah-Bonsu, a television station reported.

Mensah-Bonsu, a forward who split time between San Antonio and Toronto last season, told KRIV-TV in Houston that it feels good to be a Rocket.

Mensah-Bonsu, who played 12 games for the Dallas Mavericks in the 2006-07 season, has career averages of 4.1 points and 3.9 rebounds after playing a total of 34 games over two years.

so what do you think good fair or poor ?

Apparently his family lives in SA during the season. I've read his off-season home is in California...

It'd be a waste of money to continue renting the place during the off-season if it's just a place for him to crash.

I thought that was a "and that's what she said" joke for a minute there.

I'm not sure what to make of this signing at the moment. Some sort of trade has to be in the near future, though.

So??? I guess this is a backup plan if Andersen struggles a little? You cant go with Hayes at center since he is only 6ft6. This gives us another 6,9 guy who is also taller than Dorsey and has played good in D league which Dorsey hasnt and has played in the NBA at a high level when given minutes. Sounds nice but I would like for us to also make a move now that this overloads our roster and drop some salaries like Barrys, Cooks, and throw in a guy like Landry to get a good player perhaps? Maybe this is a prelude to another move or it doesnt make much sense unless it is stockpiling. I have to believe this isnt the last move or it is just odd to me at least. I like Pops though. His numbers are great and sometimes guys grow into better players with more time in the league and he may be one of those guys.

I have to admit, this one absolutely mystifies me. I can't think of a single positive angle to view this move at beyond the obligatory, "Morey works in mysterious ways".

Mensah-Bonsu has been a fairly horrible player statistically so far in the NBA. To say he is mediocre would be to put to shame the word "mediocre".

Sometimes I feel like Morey is just trying to screw with fans as much as possible: "Figure this one out, punk!"

Me: "Please don't make me kill my firstborn!"
    Morey: "DO IT!"

"PSYCHE! I scared ya for a second with that Pops signing didn't I?"

I guess we'll just have to wait and see about this one. Sheesh.

To me this seems to mean that we are probably doing a sign in trade swapping Landry for Sessions. The next question is what lineup do we go with and what happens to AB or Lowry, are one of the two involved in the s&t?

This lineup isn't bad besides our glaring defensive hole at Center, unless Dorsey can make the transition and be Baby Ben Wallace and come in and get boards and blocks.

    Sessions/Lowry
    Ariza/JT
    Battier/Budinger
    Scola/Pops
    Andersen/Dorsey/Ramos?

Why would it mean this? Is the Ramon Sessions thing a substantiated rumor?

To me this seems like a move to get another move. I would love to trade away Landry if that meant we got Sessions in the sign and trade. Then that could make Brooks a solid backup and Sessions a solid starter or Vice versa. Lowry could become expendable or Brooks for another trade. I hope this means we are going after others and we are planing on including a couple of our players in a trade to get someone of notice here. Then this would make sense to me because it is adding depth to prepare for that move. At least that is what I hope Morey is doing.

Rockets insiders on clutch said the Rockets had real interest in Sessions and that he was supposedly practicing with the Rockets but no one had anything real solid too back it up. I really hope it is something we are doing, and it seems like I was reading the posts on Sessions before we got Pops and someone hinted at us possibly getting Pops and doing a sign and trade to get Sessions for Landry so..obviously someone had some insider info or got really lucky with half of that coming true.
