I think the only reason barry signed was to follow in his father and brother footsteps.

Brian cook would have to be packaged with someone more valuable for us to get rid of him IMO

Brian cook is going to be traded to someone for cash considerations like Memphis did with Steve Francis. Barry can also now follow in his father and brother's footsteps and retire.

The Rockets cannot S&T Pops. The Rockets can't trade Pops until December 15th.

And then T-Mac for a sleeve of saltine crackers and small bag of toenail clippings.

    ...too far?

Now that I think about it Its not to late for him to retire now. 17 guys on the roster now. Now with the release of White and Barry we will be back at 15.

Nah, let's play this one safe. No toenail clippings, instead, we get a used napkin.

I think we'll trade Cook and Battier for draft pick(s).

Cook to either New York or New Jersey for the option to swap 2nd round picks in 2011.

Shane Battier, Carl Landry and Joey Dorsey for Matt Harping (will retire), Kyle Korver, Kosta Koufos and New Yorks first round pick.

So that leaves us at 15 players and gives us another 1st round pick.

    C: David Andersen/Pops Mensah Bonsu/Kosta Koufos
    PF: Luis Scola/Chuck Hayes
    SF: Trevor Ariza/Chase Budinger/James White
    SG: Kyle Korver/Jermaine Taylor/Brent Barry
    PG: Aaron Brooks/Kyle Lowry

Injured: Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming

And we have 2 first round picks, one being New Yorks very valuable lottery bound first round pick and our most likely lottery bound first round pick. Andersen, Pops and Hayes can all play PF and C. Brent Barry can play 3rd string PG.

Knicks are over the cap. They cannot absorb salary in a trade. It's essentially 3.5M in, 3.5M out.

That Utah trade is senseless. If Harpring retires, he's still on the books. Korever is garbage. So that's 3 assets the Rockets give up for just Koufos.

worzel, I think Harpring's contract is only partially guaranteed for next season. However, with the Jazz about to be significantly over the luxury tax threshold, why wouldn't they just waive Harpring and reap the (partial) savings themselves?

So if we get the pick from the Jazz, does that mean if the Knicks were to get the first pick, the pick would go to us?........ and if that is the case get it done Morey :D

There is NO WAY IN HELL that the Jazz will trade that Knicks pick unless the other team takes on Andrei Kirilenko's monstrous contract. That pick is the Jazz's second best asset, behind only Deron Williams.

It would probably take T-Mac's contract (assuming that he wasn't going to play a significant portion of the season and that insurance was guaranteed to pick up a large portion of his salary) in exchange for Kirilenko, additional contracts (with a combined total of close to 125% of T-Mac's salary) for the Rockets to get that Knicks pick.

I have a question, just because they reached a verbal agreement doesn't mean Pops has signed right, each side could still change their minds if they wanted to? Thanks for any help. Seeing some of the averages that the other posters have posted, he doesn't seem like a player Morey would go after, but we should hopefully know whats going on soon.

Nah, a verbal agreement is like a guarantee.

True. However, it's highly unlikely that there is another team waiting in the wings with a max contract for Pops.
