Ron caused a lot of problems, but Rick had no choice but to play him for long stretches at a time. Unfortunately, things will be far tougher in the upcoming season for everyone. The reason why Tracy stops the ball is not as much an unwillingness to pass as some people think, but because of his inefficient outside shooting, and an unwillingness to attack the basket. His poor defense makes things worse. I will give him some credit for trying to get to the rim more often in the early part of the outgoing season even when he was hurting, but he could revert back to taking more long shots, especially if makes some of them.
Like when Tracy wanted the Rockets to fail last year by picking the Lakers to win just he can be "right."
but he's been injured a lot, not played much in the playoffs...so its not as much as it seems....plus, if he properly aligned now it should extend his career by at least 2 years, maybe 3.
I doubt they realigned his crooked spine. I believe they just tried to strengthen his core. McGrady was a phenomenally gifted player but there was always that certain lack of killer instinct and something missing between the ears. Beyond those shortcomings, there is just no overlooking the fact that his body wasn't built for the long haul with scoliosis and what not. He's going on his 13th season. He's running on fumes at this point in his career. Re-signing him would be a huge mistake, even for MLE type dollars, assuming he even wants to extend his career (which, in my opinion, is far from a given) and would accept that kind of money if he did. I would rather suck for several years and let Morey work his magic with lottery picks instead of late 1st and 2nd rounders. Imagine what a guy like Morey could do with 2 or 3 years of lottery picks. He even mentioned during this past Summer League how he never gets a chance to pick in the lottery. Of course he'd always choose to be a contender over sucking but the fact is we aren't contenders any more and McGrady won't make us one. It's time to rebuild.
his spine was crooked, but he had muscle imbalances throughout his body because of it, that's what they fixed, his core included. I'm pretty sure he's been playing with imbalanced muscles for years now and it just got worse and caught up to him, causing the knee and shoulder issues. I know firsthand the issues this can cause and how ineffcient and difficult it can make movement. All this makes you more tired than you would be if everything was working properly. While i agree he's got a lot of miles, he's only running on fumes because of his issues. I think he'll have at least 3 more good years.
Also, i dont think i've ever read whether Tmac's scoliosis was functional or structural.....it wouldnt surprise me if early on it was implied to be structural by a doctor who wasn't thoghrough, but really it was functional, which would mean that he actually can fix it.
