I think Fisher will be a perfect fit into the JVG's system. Fisher meets all the criteria needed for the Rockets' PG. He's fundamental (which Steve is not) He looks to pass (which Steve is not but try to be like one) He's a good spot up outside shooter Has played with a big man and knows how to feed him the ball Can be tough defensively and even tougher under JVG He met more than what the ROckets need out of a PG ...All Rox need is someone that play the game fundamentally, can shoot and pass..that's it!! Now Troy Hudson...is he fundamental??? I am not sure...i think he's kind of wild. He's a good shooter? YEP!! Can he pass?? Not sure about that one either. So does he meet the criteria?? Not sure. But he's proving in the Playoffs..he can take over game...so that helps. And i think he's younger.
I'll take Arroyo over the others without a doubt. If we can manage a trade for Raul instead, even better.
I'm wondering why Arroyo hasn't gotten stronger consideration. I thought he did a marvelous job leading that rag tag crew in Utah last year. 25 years old and probably won't be too expensive. Shot 32% from downtown last year. I don't want anything to do with Troy Hudson. He's way too erratic and too much of a playmaker. He's like Steve Francis without the athleticism and skills. Brent Barry is interesting. Fabulous spot up shooter, great in transition, and when playing the point this year was racking up some amazing assist numbers. I think he had a 15 assist game this past year. The questions with him are his age and his inability to defend. I don't think he will be a candidate. Stay away from Nick Van Excel. A team with Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming has enough scoring and playmaking. Derek Fisher is the one that intrigues me. This guy would fit what I envision this team to be like a glove. Good defender, knows his limitations, good spot up shooter, championship experience, takes care of the ball. He's shot around 40% from 3 for his career and knows how to play with the stars. I can't think of a better fit. But he would be expensive and is also 30 years old now. I think how this point guard situation shapes out will be very, very interesting. I am of the opinion that a team with Yao and McGrady can be a serious contender as early as NEXT year if they're flanked with tough veterans like Derek Fisher and Jim Jackson. I would assume JVG would think that way too. But I liked what I saw from that Arroyo kid last year - alot. It would be intriguing signing him on the cheap and letting him grow with this core. Do they take a win now approach or do they want to culture this thing and build a long term foundation?
T-mac has this capability in him, "lock down defense". Cat had this capability in him, "good defense". Steve= no d Brent=no d How does T-mac and Brent equate to worse defenders collectively than Steve and Cat?
Does anyone think David Wesley can play PG again? He's such a good shooter, and put up decent point guard numbers before Baron Davis was drafted. His contract isn't bad either. He might be available if the Hornets are looking to make some changes after another first round playoff loss.
Go for the ring - get Brent even if you have to fill the front line holes with Collier wantabes. We have a few years to put the puzzle together. Let's get the pieces that fit. If we can't get Barry, try for Hudson, but please don't get Fisher.
2004 stats Brent Barry: Height: 6'6" 5.8 assists per game (9.1 per 48 minutes) 50.4% shooting overall 45.2% 3 point shooting Derek Fisher: Height: 6'1" 2.3 assists/game (5.1 per 48 minutes) 35.2% shooting 29.1% 3 point shooting Troy Hudson: (used 2003 stats since he was injured most of this season) Height: 6'1" 5.1 assists/game (8.3 per 48 minutes) 42.8 % shooting (38.6% this season in 29 games) 36.5% 3 point shooting (40.3% this season) Take a look at Clutch's sig sometime.
He was awesome at Louisville a couple of years ago. Hopefully he can develop quickly if the Rox get him. I also like Kevin Ollie and Troy Hudson. Is Rafer Alston a Free Agent? I'm not very excited about the Derek Fisher possibility. He had a pretty bad season before the playoffs last year.
Who has Tracy ever shut down? He played his best defense in Toronto... Cuttino on the other hand has shut down plenty of elite players... There was a coach in this league that thought Francis was one of the 2 best defensive guards in the entire league... Another that thought he was one of the 4 best defensive guards...
what league? the NBA? Are you sure he didn't mean "one of the 2 guys I'd most like to see defending my guards?"
Anthony Peeler is avail.. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1827185 He's a decent backup that can hit the 3. He got some nice minutes while Bibby was out last year. He could be our "Sedale Threatt" this year.
In the All-NBA defensive team voting Francis received 2 votes, 1 1st team vote, 1 second team vote, only 2 guards are selected to the 1st, 2 for the 2nd which makes it 4 guards in total. The dude played great defense last season...
He was a lot better in Toronto, blocking shots left and right, getting in passing lanes, basically just playing hard on the defensive end, he never did that in Orlando.
You're carrying it too far just based on the votes of a couple of coaches. If you call SF's defense great, you're either ignorant, insane or stupid. Do you watch any rocket games? I wonder if the fans here watch more games than the coaches who voted for him? Even though he improved quite a bit, he's slightly above average defensively at best last year.
