Well, this gives them a good reason to change them again soon. While they're at it, change the name again. Pelicans.... smh.
Weak!!! You would think the players would get to have some say in the final product. It's like the owner got one of those $1 t-shirt maker software discs in the junk bin at Best Buy and made it himself. That poor city has been through enough already! First Katrinka , then The Pelicans name and now this??!!! I know its sin city over there but no sin deserves this much punishment! I love that city. It deserves an owner like Cuban not this fool. Just sad.
Clearly, they designed them with ads in mind. That's why the numbers and letters are small(er). It leaves more room for ad space.
UniWatch sums it up You can say this much about the New Orleans Pelicans' new uniforms: The guys at the scorer's table are going to love them. The team, formerly known as the New Orleans Hornets, unveiled its new uniforms this afternoon. In a somewhat surprising move, the word "Pelicans" is nowhere to be found on the home or road jerseys, both of which feature a "New Orleans" wordmark. Even odder, the city name is rendered in very small lettering, which allows the front uniform numbers to be larger than usual. Refs and scorers will have no trouble telling one Pelican from another. The small "New Orleans" lettering feels too low-key, almost like the uniform for a high school team. It also creates the odd situation of the players' names on the back of the jerseys being larger than the city name on the front -- a possible NBA first. NBA teams aren't allowed to have alternate uniforms during their first year of operation, so the Pelicans will stick to their home whites and road blues for the coming season. They plan to add an alternate for 2014-15, with yet another alternate (maybe a Mardi Gras design?) the year after that. Until then, we'll have to live with this rather underwhelming set.
As an aside, I love the secondary logo that says, "CRESCENT CITY BASKETBALL" A secondary logo for the Rockets that says, "SPACE CITY BASKETBALL" would be cool. It's very clear that so much of the branding for the Pels is about touting their home city.
Are they the only team in the NBA who doesn't use their team name on either the Home or Away jersey. City name is on both?
In the 3rd picture down, the first guy looks like he is uncomfortable and doesn't want to be up there, Ryan Anderson looks like he is wearing pink underwear (if you get what I'm saying), The Human Pelican looks ashamed of the uniform and Holiday looks like he is texting someone. I hope these are not official picks being shown by the New Orleans front office for advertising purposes because they are horrible!
I actually like the dark uniform. the white one sucks, but I think the dark one is pretty slick. It could be worse, they could have a flying penis on it.
