I went to Tulane last year, but i transferred out, and now attend A&M... It has been Tulane's policy not to accept credit from a junior college, but that may have changed with the recent events, i have been lucky enough to talk to all of my friends from Tulane and all of them are doin fine, they are alive and well, which is all can ask for...
Jeez....There goes the value of my MBA from there Well I actually detest New Orleans and remember wishing that it would sink. Now I feel bad for thinking that in that it might actually happen. The thing that pisses me off is there was a MANDATORY evacuation. There were free buses leaving the city, yet people decided to stay and now the city is wasting its resources to help these people instead of fixing the damage.
You went to Tulane and are at aTm now? How's your handle "lnghrn4life?" Just curious. Good to hear though.
Actually UH is working with New Orleans area students to get them accepted on an emergency basis and into as many classes as possible so that they do not take a hit this semester.
Although this situation sucks to high heaven, it could be worse - we could be talking about elementary school to high school students. What happens to them? Do they just miss a year of school?
I guess I'm in the market for a new school now. Does anyone know about any other schools opening admissions to those from the Louisiana schools?
I would imagine LSU would do something for Tulane. I know that the UT-Houston Medical School is in talks to take in the Tulane Medical Students.
Actually UH is working with New Orleans area students to get them accepted on an emergency basis and into as many classes as possible so that they do not take a hit this semester. Same deal at Rice. I've heard a rumor that Tulane has now called off the entire acedemic year. From the Rice President David Leebron: In the meantime, we are prepared to offer all Houston-area Tulane students visiting-status enrollment for the fall semester in any appropriate classes that are not already filled. Rice will provide each with a transcript of those courses at the end of the semester to take back to Tulane. (Full information on this process will soon be posted on the Rice website.) We hope in this manner to help carry Tulane students and our sister university through this emergency, and to enable all to maintain a modicum of continuity.
No idea. I suspect that these are the details that are currently being worked out between Rice and Tulane.
This is what I hear my school Baylor is doing, dont know if its any help... http://www.baylor.edu/katrina/ Baylor Responds to Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts Baylor University is currently working on a number of responses to Hurricane Katrina and its devastating impact on the Gulf Coast of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. As of today (Aug. 31), here is the current response from Baylor: Baylor's McLane Student Life Center at Speight and Bagby avenues is providing showers and towels to displaced persons who are sheltered at Seventh and James Baptist Church in Waco. Baylor's Student Government is setting up a means by which students, faculty, staff and alumni can contribute to hurricane relief efforts. More information about PAWS for a CAUSE will be posted here shortly about ways you can contribute and which organizations will benefit. Baylor is working to accommodate college and university students from higher education institutions in the hurricane-affected areas to assimilate them into the university so they can continue their studies on a temporary basis. Baylor's George W. Truett Theological Seminary has offered to accommodate students at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary for a semester while the Louisiana school recovers from the hurricane. Baylor's School of Law has offered to work with the law schools at Tulane and Loyola to accommodate their law students as visiting law students while the Louisiana schools recover from the hurricane. Baylor's Student Life division is working on assembling student teams to help with the cleanup efforts over Baylor's fall break (Oct. 21-23). Check back frequently for the latest updates on Baylor's Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
According to a story in the Chron, all studentsfron Tulane will have their tuition waived at Rice. http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/metropolitan/3333708
That's a great deal. The only problem is that it's on a space available basis and there may not be many classes left open. Are any Tulane clutchcity members going to take advantage of it?
Houston was already an important rail and agricultural city in 1900, but with Galveston rebuilding it became the primary port for the area. The city leaders also had to forsight to dredge the Houston Ship Channel and make Houston an ocean going port. Add in the fact that oil was discovered near Beaumont and that Beaumont didn't dredge a channel and bingo, you have the recipe for the 4th largest city in the nation.
I graduated from Rice last year and have some friends that are still going there. If anyone has any questions about possible classes or professors (especially in English which was my major) I'd be more than happy to help. jalfredwhofrock <at> yahoo <dot> com
I have now heard the same. From the above link ... If students have already paid their fall semester tuition to Tulane, Rice will provide available space in classes at no out-of-pocket expense and will work with them to assure they remain eligible for federal financial aid. No free lunch. I would not be surprised if Tulane reimburses those universities that help out.
FWIW, I've heard UT will allow students who declined their UT acceptance and went to Tulane to come to UT.
