Your Post inspired me. There are relevant card sets. Correct me, if I am wrong, but the 1889 upper deck baseball set is still considered one of the best sets to invest in.

It was the first year upper deck came out, so it has that going for it. Plus it has Griffey Jr in it. Randy Johnson, Craig Biggio, Sheffield and Smoltz. All of these guys are probably hall of fame bound.

Why not buy the kid a set like this? If griffey can get back on a roll then it can only get better.

    No they aren't.

There's nothing like the sound of a new baseball card hitting the spokes of my favorite old orange Raliegh Chopper bicycle I used to own.

Man, I remember when I was younger and collected cards, you could get a rookie or special insert cards in every pack. Now, you'll be lucky to get one of those out of 4 packs.

It isn't about that, it is about making money. Go look on ebay. These guys in Target are going to make some coin.

My buddy worked in a card shop when he was a kid and would open the packs somehow (steam ?) take out any valuable cards then replace the missing cards with cheap ones and glue the pack back together with some special glue.

Never got caught -- I can only imagine how much all those mid-80's rookie cards are worth now.

Throw them out? If I made $8/hr at Target, I'd say "**** it" and find a place to take a nap/stare at hot chicks.

I used to collect Dragon Ball z cards as a kid. But that ended when I was in the 3-4th grade. Why anyone would collect cards after elementary is beyond me. Especially magic cards.

man i used to love buying them during the steve francis years.

one time i bought this box of 12 packs or so. went through just about all of them and was disappointed and swore not to buy anymore ever again. then on one of last packs. i found a steve francis game worn jersey card  . it was insane i called everyone i knew (nobody understand my love for the team) you couldve sworn i won 1,000 dollars in a scratch off. steve was my favorite player at the time which made it even more awesome.

dont know where that card is now :( . and i stopped buying shortly after that

for a while yugioh cards were selling for a lot too but thats trash now too

oh man, i was a baseball card fiend back in the day (before the whole steroids deal). i have a mcgwire rookie card, frank thomas, griffey, bagwell rookie cards ... early 80's ripken cards. i have no idea how much they are worth now, i havent looked up the values in a long time. i think it will be awesome 50 years from now dusting off my collection and finding out they are worth thousands .. well mcgwire wont be.

Pogs anyone? Basketball cards were cool, then I woke up one day in 4th grade and saw more to life.

Pokemon cards bought me that Dreamcast with 2 games, a memory card, and 2 controllers bundle at Sams club. I hustled those suckers in middle school, and I netted over $600. I started collecting/trading with a few cards some kid gave me for free.

I left the game too early in high school. I saw a kid sell a Yugio card for $60  I would have gotten in on the action, but I didn't feel like figuring out which cards were worth the most and going through that **** during high school.

Bro, I'll admit, my fightin' days are pretty much over. I was a DE in football and a wrestler. My favorite joke to people was and is that if the object isn;t at least as large as me I can't hit it.

I truly, truly sucked at Basketball and baseball.
