the new one is not cheaper by any means. it's more like you pay half of it now..and half of it later because of the upgraded data costs.
Yep! Not worth it, other than the extra storage. But if you're trying to browse the net, or d/l attachments using edge, you're a dum dum anyway.. wifi aint that hard to find now.
Some programs may, you just have to be careful. It will void the manufacturers warranty, so before you send it in or take it to the store you can restore the phone. I think you may also have to downgrade the bootloader. Programs like Ziphone can do it for you in one click.
From a very happy T-Mobile customer, this is bad news.....NOOOOOOOO! A Vodafone employee has provided information on his alleged hands on experience with the 3G iPhone to iPhone Atlas. The employee provided the following details: - The back is gloss black. - The 4 models we have have a black skin wrapped around the back and glued into place. This is how they came from Apple. - All are running v2.0 of the firmware. - The bootloader hardware exploit is now fixed. - The phone is running V 04.41.01 modem software. - The phone is locked down like no phone has ever been. At this stage, you can’t jailbreak it and you can’t hardware unlock it. - There is an added icon for contacts. This allows you to go straight to your contacts without having to hit the Phone icon first. - The GPS works very well. It will attempt to obtain your position via WiFi first, cell tower second, then satellite third. The accuracy appears to be within 3 meters. - We were getting a data transfer of 140kbps on average. It droped down to 70 kbps when we went inside. - Apart from that, the “feel” is much the same. The phone is smaller (I would say 20 percent) and it is noticable when you pick the unit up.
I'm assuming jailbreaking allows non-Apple apps to run on the iPhone. AFAIK Apple will now allow 3rd party apps, so is preventing jailbreaking a big deal now?
Where did you get that message from? AT&T is acting ignorant on the switch out. Also, if you were to get the new generation, does your phone bill go up $20 more for the data upgrade and such?
So, I switch out my phone for the new one. Will AT&T charge me the additional $10/month for the data upgrade? I think they would. So in theory, I would have then paid $499 plus tax for the new phone rather than the $299 and then add the additional $10/mo data update... Hmm, the only way I would be willing to change out my phone to the new one is if AT&T doesn't charge me for the data upgrade...
http://gizmodo.com/5014909/att-memo-to-retail-managers-shows-iphone-3g-policy I like this fact. I have until August 1 to decide.
I second this. I want to buy the new Iphone but I will be traveling out of the country alot. I need to unlock it so I can use them with the local plans in the different countries I am taking it to. Any help???
there should be some videos on youtube that show you how to do it. at least thats what i used to jailbreak my ipod touch
na they will upgrade your data plan once you get the 3G one. so you will get the 200 bucks back now, then lose 50 bucks on restocking, and then because of the data upgrade fee, pay 240 over the course of 2 years. total cost is 300+50+240 (extra data cost) = 590+tax
Don't like the 'activate in store'. I understand they are trying to crack down, but I liked being able to activate from home. You could apply that to any phone with a data plan. Many of them cost something on top of the voice rate. Basically for the iPhone: 20/month unlimited EDGE 30/month unlimited 3G Not a big deal IMO.
ATT, ATT, ATT... looks like they are taking away the SMS from the data plan also.. http://webworkerdaily.com/2008/06/10/iphone-3g-sms-text-messages-no-longer-bundled/ The data plans are different on the 3G iPhone versus the 2G iPhone. Consumers will pay $30 a month every month. The SMS messages are not bundled anymore, and you pay for what you want. Again the prices are based on what you buy. Plans start at $5 per month for 200 messages, going to $20 per month for unlimited messages. That’s on top of the data and voice plan. The old iPhone rate plan was $20 per month and included 200 messages. so basically the data plan went up 15 bucks!!!!!! 15 * 24 months = 360!
depends right now if you have unlimited txt it cost 40 dollars a month, with the new price if you get a 3g its 30 +20 = $50 dollars a month. figure the 1500 txt plan will be around 40 bucks as well. you're really paying more than the expected 10 price hike if you choose the 200 txt msg plan
