Think about it like this, DBC. With the new historical league, if you stick with it long enough, you will be able to fully experience the entire career of one Tim Wakefield and Flash Gordon.
So we'd start with 16 historical teams, how many seasons till new teams come around? Anyone have a link that lists in chronological order when teams enter the league? Couldn't we count the # of interested GM's and then fast forward to a year that every GM would have a team?
I had wanted to talk with Haven before even mentioning anything but since Manny brought it up I guess I will go ahead and discuss it here. I had in the past couple of days started considering beginning a new league. I know with the baseball season starting up there would be lots of interest(myself included in this) to starting a new league with current rosters(there is about to be released in the next couple of weeks an extremely comprehensive roster set including most minor leaguers from every franchise.) THe release of said roster set will also coincide with the ending of my coaching season so I would actually have time to sit down and run the league. If we get to the point where we decide to do away with the old league and there is still interest in starting a new current roster league I will be more than happy to run it. If Haven decides to keep the old league and wants to run only one league I would be willing to take over that league, but the updates will probably be sporadic for at least a couple more weeks until i can get thru with coaching, CK
I second that. To answer your question, BGM, here is when each existing franchise started play: AL Boston - 1901 NY Yankees - 1901 Toronto - 1977 Baltimore - 1901 (Was Milwaukee Brewers in 1901, then St. Louis Browns from 1902-1953, Baltimore from 1954 - present) Tampa Bay - 1998 Cleveland - 1901 Chicago White Sox - 1901 Minnesota - 1901 (Was the Original Washington Senators from 1901-1960, then Minnesota from 1961 - present) Detroit - 1901 Kansas City - 1969 Oakland - 1901 (Was the Philadelphia Athletics from 1901-1954, then Kansas City Athletics from 1955-1967, Oakland from 1968 - present) Seattle - 1977 Anaheim - 1961 (was the Los Angeles Angels until 1966, then California Angels until recently) Texas - 1961 (was the 2nd version of the Washington Senators until 1971, then the Texas Rangers from 1972 to the present) Atlanta - before 1901 (was Boston Braves from pre 1901 to 1952, then Milwaukee Braves from 1953-1965, then the Atlanta Braves from 1966 to the present) New York Mets - 1962 Philadelphia - before 1901 Montreal - 1969 Florida - 1993 Cincinnati - before 1901 St. Louis - before 1901 Pittsburgh - before 1901 Houston - 1962 Chicago Cubs - before 1901 Milwaukee - weird one, 1969 in the AL as the Seattle Pilots, then moved to Milwaukee to become the Brewers in 1970...moved to the National League in 1998 Los Angeles - before 1901 - was Brooklyn Dodgers until 1958, then LA Dodgers starting in 1958 San Francisco - before 1901 - was New York Giants until 1958, then SF Giants starting in 1958 San Diego - 1969 Colorado - 1993 Arizona - 1998 Or you could just go to here:
I'm cool with any option... historical sounds like it has really, really great potential to be awesome, though.
Out of curiosity I started to sim the 1986 season. i will post a website to see results when I get through the playoffs. At last check the AStros were leading the west. Mets leading east. Tigers in AL East and Angels in AL west.
Couldn't we count the # of interested GM's and then fast forward to a year that every GM would have a team Based on Manny's list, the first expansion teams in baseball history were in 1961 (Washington and LA). If we had 23 interested owners, we'd need to fast forward to the 1969 season.
Here is my 1986 season. I really feel this is how it should have been http://users2.ev1.net/~chkemp/1986/league.htm Of note Nolan Ryan announced on day one of the season that he would retire. I deleted the email messages so it does not show up but I thought that was kinda funny. CK
I vote "a". I have been busy with school work laytely and havent been able to do much in the league. now that I have more time, i can participate more...... Historical leagues are cooler.
I'm also of the opinion that 2 leagues are too much of a burden to be placed on a single individual. Therefore, perhaps haven could hire an assistant commish to handle the duties of one of the leagues.
I think B is the best option. I love the idea of a historical league, but there are many in the current baseball sim who have built their teams for the future, and probably deserve the chance to see if those teams will compete. Personally, I'm pressed for time right now as it is, so I'm only likely to participate in one. (preferably historical) I'd like to see less frequent simming anyway, so that full seasons don't go by in two weeks. However, if that is too much stress on haven (running two leagues), perhaps one of the other owners of OOTP would be willing to run one league.
