A couple weeks ago one of the hard drives died on my PC. It only had music, pictures, videos etc. on it. No OS. Computer would boot up fine, but when I tried to open the drive it would say "this drive needs to be formatted..." Last week I replaced it and it's worked fine for the past week but this morning I booted the PC up and I got an "MBR error 1" and Windows wouldn't load. I checked BIOS to make sure it wasn't trying to boot off the drive but it still wouldn't load. I disconnected the drive and the PC boots up just fine. I guess what I can't figure out is if the new drive is defective, why is it stopping Windows from loading when it shouldn't even look for an OS on it? The only difference I can think of is that previously I had two IDE drives and the new drive I bought is SATA, but don't know if or why this would affect anything.
