In the default button layout, X was reload, B was punch. Have they announced that PC and 360 players will be playing against each other?
LOL - when I was at Microsoft, it was annoying that all the other products got no love from marketing. Every single person up there took credit for making Halo a success and ignored other quality games because marketing a known is easy, whereas sticking your neck out and marketing another product was risky. MS culture is horrible for getting any hit games, thus the reason they have so few. Age of Empires was developed by a 3rd party, as was Halo for the most part..... MS marketing is all about spending money on sure things, they could be doing SO much more....... Rant over !! DD
I don't know yet, but a bunch of my good friends are working on it, and that is what they told me, maybe in test they will realize that it is unfair, and create rankings for both X-box and PC, but that is like doubling their work load.... Who knows. DD
Totally agree on this. This game is no better than Unreal Tournament IMO. Not saying it's not a good game becasue I have it and enjoy it but if you're used to playing 1st person shooters on PC you know this game is nothing special.
The difference though is that hte world of PC shooters reeks of online geeks and hardcore gamers with high powered graphics cards and LAN parties and Korean teenagers playing for 74 straight hours until their hands fall off. Also I think the mouse-keyboard set up allows for unbelievable precision unattainable in real life (not to mention discomfort, IMO) to the point where it's not fun unless you're a specialist . COnsole shooters, of which Halo 1 or 2 are probably among the best ever, are a different animal since they're more casual and gearted towards the pick up and play crowd.
I've played Unreal, and I didn't like it. Halo's better in my opinion; but that's just me. You can't really compare pc games to console games..they're just two different animals (and I don't think you can say outright one is better than the other). So, comparing the Halo franchise to other fps consoles, what is better? I have in my collection Half Life 2, Battlefield 2, Black, Doom, and Halo (1 & 2)...I've also played Timesplitters, Unreal, MoH and some others. Halo easily beats all except for probably Half Life 2..and even with Half Life 2, there are some things that I think Halo does better. Oh yeah, I forgot about the supposed Halo killer in Killzone...now THAT was overhyped (a pretty good game though).
And yet, some people, like myself prefer console over pc. Yeah the mouse might allow for better precision and the graphics are insane. However, I prefer to dedicate my computer for other tasks, am unwilling to shell out insane amounts of money to constantly keep the graphics and performance updated and am just more comfortable with a controller.
wait hold on...you're not sure about the multiplayer system, but you're 100% positive that a PC version of Halo 3 is being worked and it's coming out at the same time as the 360 version? I have a really hard time believing that, especially a simultaneous release...I don't see why they would do that at all
Not sure it is simultaneous.....I am 100% sure that it will be released for the PC...on VISTA ONLY (the next gen Windows) to help drive sales of MS next op system. And, I am not sure if the people on the PC side will be able to play the X-box live crowd...but I do know that MS has been going that direction for years. They want to own the community gaming space, and frankly are doing a better job than anyone else right now. I worked for MS in games for 5+ years, and was there during the first X-box launch. I was one of the founders of Digital Anvil which we sold to MS in 2001. I still have a lot of friends and contacts there, and talk to them frequently. I know a lot about Halo....they are very excited about it inside MS.....but typcial MS, they are not doing a good job of building ANY other killer App. Look at Nintendo and their killer apps...tons of em....same with Sony......MS does a piss poor job of developing IPs for their consoles. DD
well first of all, Koreans aren't into shooters/FPSes much at all...you're thinking of Starcraft/RTSes/MMORPGs =P second, what does 'unbelievable precision unattainable in real life' have to do with gaming. games don't have to be like real life, it's not like playing a FPS with a console controller is realistic in any way whatsoever either. now for the 'discomfort', what are you talking about exactly? using a mouse and keyboard for anything is uncomfortable to people?
What he is saying is that he prefers the ease of use of the console, and somehow thinks that there are more casual gamers on the console side than the PC side. LINK PLEASE !!! Now, those of us who actually make a living making games, know that there are a good percentage on both sides of the fence and not a marked difference in either casual space on PC or console. But...whatever floats his boat. I don't play FPS games on the console unless they are ONLY on the console, it is not near as much fun and not as much control as a PC has...not to mention PC graphics have been in high def for years. I still play BF1942 at 1600x1200 32bt.......stick that in an HD pipe and smoke it. DD DD
If I'm not mistaken, the upcoming MS-published title Shadowrun will allow PC gamers to play 360 gamers. I think I might have read something about MS doing more of this in the future (maybe even with Halo 3, can't remember), but I'm not sure. It might have been more like cross-platform connectivity (manage XBL account from PC, a cellphone, or something like that). I thought I read something about MS integrating XBL into Vista, but I don't know if they said anything about cross-platform play outside of just a few titles (Shadowrun for example). The developers would probably have to even things out for the two sides (M&KB vs controller), but that would be pretty cool if games in the future allowed for this. We might see more support from PC-only devs (though they're already putting out the big guns like FEAR, HL2, Wolfenstein, UT2K7, etc., on consoles). It could carry over to other types of games to of course, such as MMOs and RTS games (BFME 2 did quite well on the 360, and I think the new Command & Conquer game is also being released on the 360). As for the M&KB vs controller debate, I prefer M&KB. I was actually hoping to see most/all FPS games on the PS3 support M&KB (which I think is supported for games on the PS3 but not the 360 IIRC), but the motion sensing they put in the controller kind of ruins that idea (unless the standard mouse receives tilt control soon).
Which would be easier for a casual gamer to get into: a console or pc? It seems it'd be easier for the average joe to put 250 down on a Wii or 300-400 on a 360 than having to shell out 1-2K for a gaming pc.
thing is, that 1-2k you spent can be used for a bunch of things other than gaming. having said that, it's a little easier to jump into a console game because you don't have to worry about hardware incompatibilities. but don't make it sound like you don't do anything else with a computer you buy other than gaming
I'm not trying to...yeah sure, a computer can do so much more than that....but your not paying that thousand plus dollars to type your next term paper, surf the net or talk on aim w/ your buddies. I think you'd still come out better financially by buying a simple home pc for your personal needs then getting a console. Plus, for the casual gamer...or let's say the dad or mom that wants to buy a game system for their kid for Christmas...it just seems it'd be a whole lot easier to buy a console and a couple games; they could be playing five minutes after they unwrap it. Plus, it's a whole lot easier for someone to take their console system to their friends house to play then takin your desktop. Course, at the same time... home desktops are a pretty common thing nowadays and I'd imagine someone whose looking to get a game system (i.e. have the money to do so) would already have a computer. So you might not have to spend around 1,500 dollars; you'd would just have to buy the necessary upgrades. BUT, if you're talking about casual gamers here, do they have the knowledge, time and motivation to find the necessary upgrades they need to make, buy them and install them either themselves or by a professional. That's a lot of extra steps than simply buying a console and plugging it in. Just my opinion though.
You can get a good gaming PC for under $600. DD PS. I am currently developing a product for the X-box 360 and PC and we are talking about this very issue......I think they want connectivity, but there are a lot of development issues with that.
Is that through building it yourself...or can you actually get a decent one in the store for under 600? And I wasn't trying to say there are no casual gamers on the pc side...just that it seems easier for a casual fan to get on board with a console.
