Picked this up today. Axl has created a masterpiece. I would say this is better than both Use Your Illusion albums and almost at Appetite for Destruction's level.
Oh, good. There are others. I quit posting in this thread because it seemed there were no GNR fans here. Forget all the whines about who isnt in the band and pick this up. Album of the Year. I am tempted to call it Use Your Illusion III. Very much that style.
listened to it once, and i liked what i heard. it's great to see metallica and GnR release solid albums.
I really wish I never heard the leaked songs. It like spoiled every thing. Damn. I actually like some of the leaked versions better. This album is such a different road Axl has taken, and I feel its a good one. Rolling Stones gave it a 4 out of 5. I heard he's got enough songs to make 2 more albums (Like a makin it a freakin trilogy or something). " Sorry" and "This I love" was atleast a surprise.
I thought the intro to the song was still part of a commercial or something. I'll give Axl credit though, his voice has held up really good.
It's not bad, actually, I am really surprised. Now, it's not Appetite for Destruction level (that's my fave CD EVER), but for a CD that's not even supposed to exist... it's not shabby at all. Considering all the drama that's gone in GNR in the last 15 years, it's a solid effort. 3.5/5
The beginning sounds like Elephant Stone by the Stone Roses <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/FfzQLZtCZSY&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/FfzQLZtCZSY&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Mixed bag for me. It's missing the awesome guitar riffs from previous albums. I won't be blasting this in the car.
There Was a Time & Street of Dreams sound like they could have been on one of the Illusion albums. Both are fantastic. I actually like the ballads better than the rockers.
i know what you mean. not only that, the solos are meh. don't care too much for the rockers, i love the ballads. but on "this i love", when i heard the solo i was disappointed. i kept thinking that slash would have made it ten times better.
Just finished listening the album. I will say is a very good album but not great. I will agree with the critics this is an over-production album. The guitars sounds are heavily distorted making the album sounds like NIN or White Zombies. My favourite from the album are the title track and Better. Since I m a big Axl fan i will give this EIGHT out of TEN.
6/10 feels a bit unorganized and the guitar work just isn't as good as slash. it's not bad but since nearly the entire album is ballads it's really missing those smooth tones that slash brought to GNR. axl's voice is pretty impressive after so long without hearing it, but he got a bit carried away with it on some songs. i kept thinking i was hearing axl's immigrant song impersonation. but he really is a fantastic songwriter, if he wasn't f#$king nuts and you could get him to actually COLLABORATE with slash and some other guys they could probably make another masterpiece. there's some solid stuff that i'll be playing for a while but as a whole it's not a great album just good. more bands should 14 freaking tracks on their cd's though. i do like that.
A lot of people are making a fuss about it. Guess Im not hearing it the same way. Doesnt really bother me.
I think I like the leaked demos better than what i've heard from the album -- it's not bad at all just a little over produced IMHO.
