1/30-2/17 - Arbitration hearings begin. Deals often happen immediately prior to or even after hearings before a decision. Let's go Brown. Show us what you got.
This here is Bart Smimpson. He's cheap cause teams don't like how he throws and find it funny. He throws underhand and has the nickname "Grandpa Bart". Does he deserve the criticism? No. He is one of the stronger pop-up pitchers cause of how the ball crosses the plate at a steep angle and how players can't make solid contact. He can be your's for less than $500k.
He is mostly a Pete Putila guy. The Astros had strong interest dating back to Luhnow, but my understanding is that Click was on board adding him as well. Even if Leon never produces, the Astros offer and signing was based on very real measures. Leon is by FAR the best athlete in the Astros system, he has excellent instincts in the outfield, he has a very strong and accurate arm... he also has a lot of power and works hard. Leon has had an incredible amount of bad luck.....he missed time defecting, then waited to sign, then there was COVID and after that he has had several fluke injuries. He ended up missing 2019 and 2020. In 2021 he played half a season across three levels in the Astros system while playing a new position. In 2022 he played 2/3rds of a season So in total, between his 18th and 24th birthday (6 years), he has played only 300 games.
Thanks Nook. I read that Dusty and Bagwell really like him. I was really impressed with his reduction in strikeouts through the middle of last season. They jumped back up after his return from injury but that kind of injury can totally mess you up at the plate. Only his K rate and lack of playing time are holding him back. His other skills could make him a great bench player as a floor. Who do you think he compares too? I am thinking Jose Siri but even he has better K rate skills than Jose.
That is a good question. Jose Siri is one of the rare players that arguably has as strong or stronger skills than Leon. Siri is an incredibly physically gifted player. Leon reminds me some of Raul Mondesi with a little bit of Cedric Mullins. He will never hit for a high average, but he has shown the ability to draw a walk, and has a lot of power; you couple that with his speed and his arm and glove and he can be a high WAR player if he can just avoid 175 K's a year.
I have actually posted the Raul Mondesi comp on here multiple times in the past. Mostly because of the compact build, power/speed combo, and rocket arm. Now if he had Mondesi's hitting skills we would be set !!
The easiest way to avoid 175 Ks in a season is to suck. Most of the 175 K club are really good ball players because it takes a special kind of "we really don't have anyone else" for a team to allow a bad player to get 175 Ks.
How long will the Dana Brown honeymoon period last before CF clamor for another GM because of 20th-26th men on the roster aren’t all stars
If he can learn the strike zone and improve his contact his ceiling is incredibly high, poised to be a late bloomer. Worst case 4th outfielder defensive superstar with pop and speed.
If siri was even serviceable(as is making a little contact) at the plate, he would be a no brainer. Siri is an outstanding outfielder.
You know what my point is. BTW, a lot of people who called the Texans org a racist org have a big helping of crow to eat.
Destiny Brought Brown and Baker Together With Houston Astros Houston Astros Dana Brown and manager Dusty Baker could have been a deadly combo years ago, now they finally get the chance in 2023. That's why it comes as little surprise that Brown was interviewed by the Seattle Mariners back in 2015 for their general manager position. At the time, Brown made it known that he was going to hire Dusty Baker to be the manager of the Mariners according to USA Today's Bob Nightingale. https://www.si.com/mlb/astros/news/destiny-brought-dana-brown-dusty-baker-together-houston-astros
Anyone hear Brown on 790 yesterday? He was asked point blank about Tucker and Framber longterm deals. He did not shy away from it and said the team wants to sign them and discussions have already taken place. If I remember correctly he also said Crane wants it to happen. Going to be interesting to see if it gets done and Crane softens his stance on deals going over 5/6 years.
Right or wrong, Siri reminds me of Jake Marisnick with outstanding defense and pathetic offense. He had few defenders.
Really, the prohibition against a 9-10year deal, especially when talking about a guy with 3-5 years of club control left, is fundamentally about the question as to whether Crane is willing to have even a modicum amount of fairness in his dealings with labor. Signing Tucker to a 10/250 would be a value for Crane and tucker would likely outperform it. He just would outperform it by 20% instead of 250%. I hope Crane gets to the point in time where he’s ok with a guy like Tucker getting 250M over 10 years while providing 350M worth of value- as opposed to only employing him for 3/40 in arbitration while he extracts 120M worth of value and then telling him have a nice day.
