It's amazing how many fans wants us to push forward. If T-Mac and Yao are rushed back(earliest projection dates), the Rockets still need a miracle to make it to the playoffs. They're simply THAT crappy right now. Why would any rational Rockets fan want to risk further injuries to Yao and T-Mac for that miniscule chance is beyond me. And if the Rockets are not going to be in the playoffs, what's the difference between being a bottom 3 team, as opposed to be being a bottom 10 team? Sure, Rudy Gay or LaMarcus Aldrigde aren't exactly incredible prospects. But it's not as if the Rockets NEED a superstar. It's not whether they're better than Duncan or Lebron, they just need to be a big step up from the likes of Bowen, Wesley, DA, etc. You know, those scrubs that litters this team.
Hey the Astros went from being 2-21 on the road and being the crappiest team in the league to making the World Series........they almost did it 2 years ago as well when they went 36-10......I know their story was a lil different cause they didnt have the injuries, they just came together as a team.......The Rockets have the injuries, but it can happen. I say we make 1 last stand with TMAC back next week........and if we dont turn in around in the next month, call it a year and shut em all down but not yet......
You stand corrected the Spurs got there by tanking. Actunally, they've almost had a dynasty since they last tanked.
Just hope both Yao and T-Mac are back on the floor at least 90% healthy by Feb.1. Then, wishfull thinking I think they can make a late push to the playoffs grabbing an 8th and final spot. But damm win a couple by then!!!!!!!!!
That's when that guy has no choices except fighting on. Tanking for Rox only means a tactical retreat. You always need a tactical retreat in order to achieve a bigger objective.
You really think the ROX are considering this? Remember this is VG's team. All he's worrying about is winning tomorrow's game, the next game, and the next game. Coming up with a losing strategy would make VG's head explode. Literally. Even though I think it's dead wrong, I respect you guy's opinions who want to tank. But it's all moot. There is no consideration. This team will not tank.
Err, wrong sir. In 1996 the Spurs were decimated by injuries just like us now. And those injuries lasted long enough to guarantee them 20 wins in the season: they started 3-18, their coach got fired (that's when Pop got the job), and things did not get better. Robinson played only 9 games before breaking his leg, and he was their #1 player. 4 of their top 6 scorers were injured for more than half the season. As bad as our injury situation is, it probably hasn't gotten as bad as that spurs season yet (at least we still have hope of our top scorers returning soon). The Spurs most certainly did NOT tank. They just could not win, even after changing coaches (which seems to be a popular theme around here lately). And for all you "tank" losers (yes, tankers are losers), who is the Tim Duncan you want to draft?
We don't need a Duncan. I'd take a Chris Paul, or a Diogu, or a Channing Frye. We could certainly use a Brand or a Melo or even a Kenyon Martin. Just because there isn't one guaranteed franchise player in this draft doesn't mean that there aren't still a number of quality players. And the higher we pick, the more options we have in terms of trades. Move a high pick and luggage for an established player like Brand, SAR, or Jamison. Or trade the pick for 3 first rounders and bring the EG fiacso full circle. When Yao comes back and we don't start playing like gangbusters right away (at the very least .750 winning percentage), then it's time to put T-mac on the shelf for the season, and start making trades for the future.
Agree. Play hard, play to win. We currently stink, but we're still playing hard and JVG will never allow his team to tank. We may still have a "tanked" season, but without mailing it in.
The art of tanking is losing without giving up, which requires stars being kept out as long as possible with legit reasons(such as nursing a bad back), while the role players fight all the way. Would you call a military retreat due to high casualities a surrender? I wouldn't. Retreat is for reloading and coming back strong.
It certainly sucks as a seson ticker holder. I got the league pass and consider it a waste of money now.
I'm dissapointed with everyone who thinks they should throw in the towel and go for a draft pick. The thought disgusts me. It's a depressing season after the expectations I had for the team this season, but I'm nowhere near giving up. The Rockets are out of the playoffs the day they are mathematically eliminated. I hate that the question is even being asked. We don't need a damn draft pick. A healthy T-Mac and Yao is all this team needs. Draft pick? DISGUSTING.
That is the point. Neither is healthy. Neither should come back before 100%, repeat 100%, healthy. That is the A#1 reason to accept defeat.
