well, i've liked pretty much every comedy by the coens (put me down as one who loved intolerable cruelty) and didn't like their 2 highly acclaimed dramas. finally saw fargo last year after hearing how great it was and it was just boring and uninteresting to me. no country had a bunch of build up and no payoff (loved anton though). but since this seems to be a comedy, i'm excited.
You had me at "Coen Brothers". I'm f-ing there. I'll buy the dvd and wear it out like I did Fargo (probably my favorite movie ever). I really need to get the bluray so I can stop procrastinating and by No Country For Old Men because I really want that movie.
I saw this yesterday and loved it. Starts off slow, but really gets wild and crazy. Great, great acting by a lot of people, even those with bit parts. Some of you won't like it, but as a Coen Brothers fan I'd have to rank it pretty hight. It's a good post Ike comedy.
Saw this a few days ago and thought it was pretty good. As usual, the performances were really what made the movie. The Coens are getting a tad predictable, though. 7/10
Bizarrely entertaining. Not the classic all timer that Libowski, Arizona or Oh Brother are but I LOL'ed so it was worth the time and money (matinée)
The wifey and I went and saw it the other day. It wasn't great but it wasn't bad either. I don't think I would tell people to go see it in the theater, it's a renter.
first time i think i've ever agreed with you. loved fargo, lebowski, oh brother, all that, but no country for old men is sooooooooooo overrated and this just does not look that funny to me
To be honest I didn't like it much. It was mediocre at best, although I found the very end hilarious. It felt like an elaborate 90 minute setup for a punchline.
The wife and I saw it last night and she thought it was funny...she was crazy about Pitt. I'd say if you're watching your pennies, wait for the rental.
I wonder when people will realize Clooney and Pitt are not funny? signed, the miserable Ocean series.
Saw it the other day. Good movie, funny. In the pantheon of Coen movies, it's not at the top or anything. But, it's still better than anything you'd see from most other movie-makers. It was interesting reading the argument about film noir and screwball comedy at the beginning of this thread having seen the movie because the movie definitely has a dark, cruel side to it, but hides it behind a smile. (I used to hate George Clooney, until I saw him in O Brother. Now, I like him. The Coens make their teammates better.)
i never hated Clooney but his character in O Brother is probably one of my favorite movie characters of all time.
EXACTLY my sentiments. All in all, I really enjoyed this movie. Didn't absolutely blow me away, but it was tons better than 90% of the movies out right now.
I saw this on saturday and This is exactly what I thought. The last scene was the best part of the movie. I never want to see it again. I would rather watch my dog take a poop.
Very funny, good movie, the girl i took is very a picky but she liked it b/c it was so bizarre. But not the type i would watch over again unless years have passed and i forgot it or if im with a girl that hasn't seen it. Brad Pitt cracked me up. The two movies i can't wait to see are Quantum of Solace and Benjamin Button
