I don't care much about college but what about that RICK PITINO guy? Bobby Knight could discipline Steve Francis.

Heck lets go with GLEN RICE! as player coach. He knows the importance of the inside game and he is not afraid to tell it like it is. This way also he will be REALLY earning his pay check.

    GLEN RICE for player coach!!!

The operative word in your statment is "normally". It depends on whether they are good teachers and motivators or just good at recruiting as was the case with Pitino. Successful examples include Larry Brown (Kansas) and Chuck Daley (Penn).

Daley is 6 years older than Hubie (70 in July)...I doubt he has any interest. Hubie is actually setting things up for a team of assistants which is currently headed by his son. Chuck Daley most recently left Orlando after having a decent record...my guess is he's burned out on the job.

There can also be a case made that great players "normallY" don't make good coaches.

Unfortunately, I think this is all an excercise in futility as the Rockets will promote form within. :(

If for some reason Les Alexander demonstrates some boldness, I like the concept used with Bird at Indiana. Bird was the "coach" but the X's and O's were handled by the assistants (Rick Carlisle now with the Pistons was one of Bird's assistants).
