I can't believe the board is enamored with Larry Brown. Every team can't wait to get rid of him (ask the Spurs or Philly). Even though Van Gundy is tainted with Knickiness, he would be a better choice. However, I'm unconvinced that Calvin Murphy would be inferior to either of them.

The guy makes it to the NBA finals with almost every team he coaches. Get rid of him? The blame is on Allen Iverson for not improving since the day he came into this league. If the guy would improve his shot just slightly for ONE offseason, his teams wouldnt have these problems.

I say try to get Larry Bird. I was impressed with the job he did in Indiana, and he could be coaxed out of retirement with the prospect of caoching Yao Ming, a true passing big man.

Bird could set us on the right path, he recommended the Pacers hire Rick Carlisle, I'm thinking Bird could find us another good coach if he wants to retire after a couple of years.

We need to think about this coaching situation. Its not that Rudy cant coach its that he has lost control of the players. You have only to look at the street ball that is being played. Francis is not as great as sometimes we think he is, like he was just eaten alive by a Rookie, Caron Butler and drawn into a one on one dual, resulting in only one assist for the complete game. With such a week leader at the Coaching level and on the Court the players are not developing team chemistry or spirit. When do you see anyone go to help Steve Francis or Yao Ming with a pick? Defence during the Rockets offensive mode is not being taught! I am sure there are tapes of Utah who are masters of helping out on offence . All this aside we need a defensive minded coach who knows how to 'win'. This rules out Nelson, he hasn't won anything! We dont need to promote from within, as I cant see anyone worthy of the task at hand. Are we going out into the College ranks or even overseas to look for that strong minded maker of men ?

He said Donnie Nelson aka Don Nelson's son.

I think Van Gundy, Larry Brown, and Donn Nelson are all great coaches. Larry Brown might stick around Philly a little longer. I like Van Gundy because I think we'd have a legitimate shot and the guy has always been a winner, his team's play great defense, and he always gets great effort and mileage out of his players.

When did that happen, he said he wanted to talk contract extension but Cuban told him to wait until the off season. Don't tell me you don't remember that. So did I miss something between that little flap and today? If we do fire Rudy, then getting Donnie would make sense because he is waiting for a chance to be a head coach in the right situation.

Apparently you're one of the only ones that thinks about things like this.

Does anyone actually think that CD would stay if his buddy got fired? Wishful thinking. In one fell swoop, you would be doing so much damage to one organization. Yeah, get rid of Rudy, get rid of CD...get rid of everything players and other front offices like about this organization. Say goodbye to the times when players actually wanted to come to Houston, of all places, for LESS MONEY. Say goodbye to the diamond-in-the-rough drafts, the Mobleys, Cassells, Horrys, Kenny Thomases, etc. Better yet, do it right before we move into a brand new arena. That's right, kick a legend to the curb right then. Thanks for all you've done Rudy, thanks for the past 30+ years, thanks for dedicating most of your life to bettering this organization, but we don't want you to hang around when we move into the building that YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR DELIVERING TO US. Smart move. Luckily I don't think Les thinks the way a lot of you clowns do. He realizes how much money Rudy has made him.

    Yes he is.

    I would like...

    Larry Brown.
    Calvin Murphy.
    The Czar.
    Jeff Van Gundy.
    John Lucas.
    Avery Johnson.
    Moses Malone.

    HIRE ALL OF THEM!!!

And Donnie Nelson would be good too. He can tell us all the secrets of the Mavericks. And he shall defeat his father!!! No..not really.

Don Nelson is not retiring. I think he is getting ready for next year.

lucas - how many chances can this guy have? a million times?
malone - can't he speak clearly and effectively? he calls yao ming as yao meng.
avery johnson - still playing, next 3 years as an assistant coach
    van gundy/fatello - too expensive
    brown - current coach
daly - too old to coach. a one-year thing?
donnie nelson - not going to leave
bird - les, want to him a small part of the team? no way!

what about mike dunleavy? no, this is not a father and son deal cuz junior sucks.

Okay. I meant all of them together......DANG. That would be great. Like a committee meeting every game. They could all meet. Genius discussions. They could dominate our team. One coach per player. They would be disciplined.

First the Rockets should at least interview Mr Mean Larry Smith, since he's an assistant coach. Then take a look at Jeff Van Gundy.

I like Rudy T alot but if we were to make a change i would go w/ the following:

I know he can be an annoying announcer but i think Bill Walton really knows hoops and is a very intelligent man. Lord knows he loves Yao Ming. John Thompson would be another choice of mine, and if we were to look at the college ranks I think Billy Donovan from Florida would do well with our team, very intense coach.

College coaches normally don't make good NBA coaches. Look at Rick Pitino.

AS a long time Rockets fan, I am willig suffer some humiliation and become the coach of this team.

I can't get worse results than Rudy - I will get a few assitant coaches to do the Xs and Os..... and have an advisory board made up of top 5 CCNetters as my kitchen cabinet!!! - of course I will watch your posts from now to see whether you can qualify.

This will work for Rudy - because he will no longer have to put up with this crap - I will make him the Talent Acquirer - which he is good at. This should be more than okay for Les, as I will save at least 3 million from what he is paying Rudy!!
