Snow Patrol - they are the new Coldplay Franz Ferdinand - groovy rock! Gomez - Split the Difference - This one gets better with every listen Death Cab For Cutie - Transatlanticism - Just refound this CD with it's awesome, mellow tracks The Charlatans - they have a new one coming out soon, can't wait for that one! Beta Band - Heroes to Zeros - very good, typical stuff from the Beta Band
"Riff After Riff" - The Wildhearts (2004) Riffs like a jackhammer; more hooks than a tackle box. "The Wildhearts Must Be Destroyed" - The Wildhearts (also 2004) This is what all rock music should sound like. More hooks than a bait shop. "Melodies to chop off your legs for", I saw one reviewer write. Spin Magazine calls it "the catchiest hard rock record of the year" (surprised they even know about it, but they definitely know what they're talking about in this case). The more radio-ready of the two releases, if radio were ready to play good songs. Incidentally, try to find the song 'Vanilla Radio' from this album.
PJ Harvey's new cd is coming out, if anyone out there has it or has heard it please let me know if it's any good or not. Her last album was great and I'm hoping for the same.
i use a service called rhapsody. for $9.95/month you can get streaming audio of just about any album by any artist you can think of save the beatles, led zep, radiohead and madonna. you can download individual tracks for like .79 each, but i have never done it. its great if you work infront of a computer all day, as you can pick pretty much whatever you want to listen to. entire stones, dyland, miles, fela, ect. there arent alot of independent labels up there, save for matador, sub pop and some more "corporate" indies. my favorite thing is that they have all those great trojan records box sets up. it makes me think hard about cd purchases, as i always say "is this up on rhapsody." i think you can get there thru www.jambase.com and look for the link to rhapsody. looks like they are doing a one month free deal right now.
ah ok. i was wondering about that. the single is out on itunes so i assumed that the album might have been released already as well. i really like the single. you know the cure will be on tour with interpol, cursive, the rapture and a few other bands the end of this summer. houston 8/15 dallas 8/14 tour dates and info
from what they have been playing on my radio station (TripleJ - which you can listen to on the net) it sounds pretty good.. i'm not a big fan but as per usual it sounds of a very high standard from Polly Jean
I've *ahem* acquired most of Inches, but haven't given it a listen yet. I suppose I should give it a whirl to see if the rest is worth waiting on. I just got the new Lambchop albums yesterday, and they're fantastic. Countryish, R&Bish stuff with loads of complementary strings and a guy who sounds like Bob Dylan, only more gruff and much more listenable. 2004 is turning out to be a very good year for music.
PJ's new album, "Uh Huh Her", is pretty brooding and moody. Reminds me a bit of "Dry" with some Queens of the Stone Age-like touches here and there. I like this one a lot, though it seems a bit far away from her last cd.
The first 2 discs make it worth putting the money down to buy the entire set. The third disc is not bad and the fourth one is tolerable, but you have to appreciate electronica music somewhat to like it. Favorite tracks: Disc 1 - "I'm Cold", "Lament" (Flexipop Version), "Lament", "The Dream", "The Upstairs Room", "New Day", and "A Few Hours After This" - really all of them are good Disc 2 - "Breathe", "Snow in Summer", "Hey You!!!" (Extended Remix), "How Beautiful You Are" (Clearmountain Remix), "To the Sky", and "Fear of Ghosts" Disc 3 - "Halo" and "Burn"
great to hear that Rockhead... wasn't as blown away after my first listen as there early stuff.. but will give it some time and listens
I bought Soul Survivor 2 by Pete Rock. Its not as good as the first Soul Survivor but its worth a listen.
It's not as "happy" as her last one. It tends more towards her older work kind of the PJ we all now and love.
Eagles of Death Metal - peace love death metal: their debut record with QOTSA Josh Homme. Great, greasy and sexy stuff. Kinda cool coverversion of "Stuck in the middle with you". Johnny Ace - memorial album: very nice album for people who like original RNB. and all because the lady loves - sister bridget: just getting into this band. Seems to be nice Mel brown - Chicken Fat / Mister Groove: the perferct BBQ music. Toots and the Maytals - true love: new record of classic toots songs in collaborations with Ryan Adams, Willie Nelson, Keith Richards, Ben Harper, Jeff Beck, Bootsy Collins, etc. Great Record. Zero 7 - when it falls: music for all who like AIR's moon safari.
I could not believe the Mandy Moore version of XTC's "Senses Working Overtime." Outside of Beyonce's version of the Andrea True song, how good an interpretation has anyone of us heard like this in years? Amazing. Shockingly, the kids know what they're doing.
Do you really think they are into that music? I am not sure. I hardly believe it. It's marketing to deceive the semi-smarts.
