TTB BM: i'll take the bet with a slight variation. if i lose, i'll leave the d&d for a year. if you lose, no penalty, but you must agree to a signature between now and election day that acknowledges you've spent the past 8 years posting with the intent to undermine our C-in-C.
^There it is folks - more proof that basso believes that posting on a basketball message board is a threat to national security, and that he fulfills a vital patriotic duty with his presence here. TRUE PATRIOT. Anyway I'm personally happy to note that I've tried to blunt the failed presidency of George W. Bush for 8 years. I'd be ashamed of myself otherwise.
I was making fun of you and George with the "undermine the c-in-c" stuff, basso. Not surprised you didn't get it.
Of course I'll take my bet. I said I would in the first post. I'll take pretty much any bet that makes sense. You want me to post a signature today saying I've been trying to undermine the commander-in-chief? That doesn't even make any sense. Which is par for the course. You're not fun like George is. You're just weird.
it makes perfect sense. you only have to carry the sig through the election, and even if you lose the bet, there's no further penalty. on the other hand, if i lose, i'm out of the d&d for a year. really, it's so lopsided, i can't imagine why you'd turn it down?
Usually in a bet the consequences happen AFTER the event you're betting on. The only reason to make someone do something BEFORE the event is if you're sure you're going to lose. What you're proposing isn't even a bet.
Anyone taking a bet that McCain will win this after what has happened the past 2 years is not thinking rationally. George Bush (with the help of a sad GOP Congress) has done to the Republican party what Jimmy did to the Democratic party back in the 70s. It will take 20 years for the GOP to recover from this.
I will put that I don't support GWB after every D&D post from now till election day. This is a win win situation. GWB sucks I don't support him.
Sure, I'm in. Whichever. Cabbage, I am with you like 99.5% of the time, but I think you're wrong here. Making internet bets about leaving a BBS is in perfect tune with the D&D. It totally hits the spot. The thing Batman and others are looking for with Trader_Jorge is accountability. Our hero poofs every time one of his over-the-top predictions rings false (see: "News on Obama's Birth Certificate in One Hour, Stay tuned"). Or when he is demonstrably wrong on policy or history. Or when he self-owns (the hilarious Batman called the election for Kerry thread). He also explains that he represent mainstream America - that he and his circular Ayn-Rand-Meets-Sean-Hannity-Meets-A-Severe-Head-Trauma logic is somehow both a) correct and b) popular. For him, one-note nonstop posting on a sports website, beating up non-existent "liberal" straw men, is a thoughtful and strong worldview. Basically, he is Rush Limbaugh without the humor or money, and he contaminates more productive political discourse on this website. SO: The bet is a chance to put this to some sort of objective measure on his preposterous claims. Obama is so fringe and electorally doomed? McCain Palin are so in touch and smart? Terrific. Lets bet on it. Of course he wont take it - his expressed political worldview relies on a lack of objective measures or accountability. Really, the call for taking a bet demonstrates that the views he so arrogantly expresses are neither correct nor representative of the country he supposedly loves. And its not just about Trader. Its about the parasite cardboard conservatism that has overtaken the nuanced, reasonable and restrained elements of the right wing - truth is, we need the 'sane' GOP back. Honestly, the country needs leaders to speak substantively about fiscal prudence, military strength, the rights of the individual, etc. But no, we have to listen to Hannity, Rushbo, and conquistador blather on about William Ayers. As Jon Stewart would rightly observe, people who espouse those views really love America, they just hate 90% of the people in it. There are political writers on the board with whom I disagree - IROC, faos, rhester, etc - but I actually come here so I can read their stuff, not just Batman and people I agree with. But Trader is so "all talk," his mouth is so big, his posting so mean-spirited and unsubstantive, he would never put his money where his mouth is. By reducing the bet to something as inconsequential as putting God Bless America in his sig and not liberal-starw-man bashing for a year or whatever, he is shining a light on what Trader is made of - lack of accountability, misanthropy and cowardice. The Conquistador indeed. Take the bet.
Because I've never lied on this board and even the sweet prize of you being gone for a year doesn't persuade me to start doing it now.
