Of course, anything BSG is just pure dren. Here's a USA Today article about the BSG miniseries, and an online poll about what canceled show deserves miniseries treatment. The choices are NewsRadio, MacGyver, Lou Grant, Party of Five, My So Called Life, Freaks and Geeks, and Farscape. Vote wisely.
What kind of mini-series only lasts two days, anyway? Especially one without an ending. I understand leaving an open ending if you think the thing might go to series, but this thing had barely gotten started. Personally, I don't think you can call anything that's shorter than some theatrical movies (The Green Mile, for example) a mini-series.
Farscape is sitting at 82.71% after 1278 votes. Did you vote 1277 times, nomar? I would've surely voted for Newsradio, but no Phil Hartman =
yeah I've read some of the stuff said on Scifi.com's boards by these dorks. its a new series with the story told in a new way, I don't understand why these people want it to be just like the orginal series. if it was just like the orginal series, just with new CGI effects, then why make it inthe first place? just go buy the DVD of the orginal.
Where's Part III? I have videotape of Parts I and II but Part III was not aired. Was Part II the end? I thought they were supposed to fly away searching for Earth. If that was it, the Part II "ending" is .... poor.
The problem is that "Taken" was always conceived of and meant to be a mini-series. The new Galactica was apparently conceived as a series and what was shown to us was just an extended pilot. Now normally, a network will decide whether to buy a show or not based on the pilot, so by the time the pilot airs (if ever), the series is approved, in-production and ready to go. In this case, it appears the pilot was broadcast as a miniseries to gauge interest in the series before committing to actually do the series. If the pilot flopped, then no more money is spent on the project and it just dies. If the pilot performs well, they can go to series and feel pretty confident about it being a success. Problem is that it will take several months to ramp up production and get episodes on the air. In that time, the desire for a series could dip considerably, especially given the jarring ending of the pilot. As a pilot the new Galactica is pretty good. As a miniseries, it's awful. It's all beginning and no ending.
Mostly summed up pretty well, mrpaige. I do have some additional info. The deadline for determining whether the mini-series will become a series is 12/31 . The actor who played the Chief on the show was kind of enough to take some time out to discuss the mini-series on an internet forum(both at IMDB and Cyclon.org(home of the new BSG haters)). He mentioned his agent will be informed on 12/31 at the latest. Around that time, decisions will be made as to which characters may or may not be coming back. It's all semi-mindless dribble anyway. We get enough of that from the Rockets. It will be nice if it comes backs in a series but I'm sure we will get by without it. I would rather have it than not have it, however, as I find it somewhat enjoyable.
If it comes back as a series, I imagine I'll give it a chance. But if it doesn't come back, I won't cry over it or anything. It really was just weird because I thought this was going to be a real mini-series. I was expecting it to have an ending. Sure, they could leave it open to a series, but I just expected there to be more of this one, especially given the hype I heard surrounding the thing. But that's the SciFi channel's fault for promoting this as something it was not, not the producers of the series. My understanding is that the ratings were very good, so I expect the series will be approved.
Sorry...that is just not true. Read for yourself: NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - The second night of the Sci Fi Channel miniseries "Battlestar Galactica" rocketed past the first Tuesday to deliver the cable channel's highest-rated program of the year. "Galactica," starring Edward James Olmos (news), gathered 4.5 million total viewers, surpassing the 3.9 million who watched Monday's opening of the four-hour miniseries. Tuesday's tally gave Sci Fi not only enough ratings power to blast past the WB Network and UPN in primetime but provided the third-highest-ranked program in the station's history. With an average of 4.2 million viewers, "Galactica" finished behind "Steven Spielberg (news) Presents Taken" (5 million) and "Frank Herbert's Dune" (4.6 million). So, as you can see, 4.2 million viewers average to Taken's 5 million. A difference of roughly 800,000 viewers. I think it got plenty of rim there, bounced around, and came out.
An excerpt from cinescape website... The chances of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA becoming a new series for the network just hit turbo. Ratings information for The Sci Fi Channel's two-part BATTLESTAR GALACTICA mini-series are in, and they'r cause for celebration for the cable channel. The show attracted the highest audience delivery for any original miniseries production on cable for the year, with an average of 4,177,000 homes tuned in to watch the remake. Additionally the second night of the series performed better than the first part, outperforming the competition on The WB and UPN. This makes the new BATTLESTAR the third highest-rated original event in Sci Fi's programming history, behind only STEVEN SPIELBERG PRESENTS TAKEN and FRANK HERBERT'S DUNE mini-series. http://www.cinescape.com/0/editorial.asp?aff_id=0&this_cat=Television&action=page&type_id=&cat_id=270355&obj_id=40396
He could mean conceptually or as an entertainment vehicle or something along those lines rather than simply based on ratings. I took it to mean that he found the Taken miniseries to be a very entertaining mini-series and the Galactica miniseries to be somewhat disappointing as an entertainment vehicle. But I guess he could speak for himself.
No need to gang up on me...lol. I see now what I didn't see before. I meant ratings...anyway. Besides, "Taken" had Spielberg for crying out loud. Of course it's going to be better. If you thought it was like watching the Democratic debate, then that is just amazing in itself.
