Yeah, I agree. I was so excited after the first trailer. Now I wish I hadn't watched the second. Really I think I'm just going to go in looking to be blown away by the technological achievements. This is going to push the envelope as far as CGI and 3D.
I thought he was about to say THIS IS SPARTA!! Forreal. These movies makes me laugh because . . . the realism of the reactions is a bit Far Fetched More so than the sci fi aspects Someone 'goes native' . . he is SERIOUSLY not the Hero. could you imagine someone turning on the Troops in Iraq or Afgan? Someone killing humans to save aliens. . . . that person would be vilified beyond all reason. I figure it will be entertaining. this seems very Pocahontas, Dances with Wolves, . . maybe even Ferngully Rocket River
IDK about suck, but not-live-up-to-hype? probably. Giovanni Ribisi is one of my favorite actors though, so, I'll give it a woo.
I think the movie might flop... and I think the execs in charge of the movie are thinking so too... otherwise why would they have to hype the movie by showing cameron's entire resume in the trailer.. good movies normally don't do that in trailers.
So I guess Kevin Costner in dances with Wolves was not the hero then? Or better yet, what about Sharlto Copely in District 9? Killing humans to save aliens... how bout defending a species from relocation and possible extermination from a greedy corporation. Hard to make a comparison to Iraq or Afghan because those wars are far more complicated.
I think they did that because Cameron has been out of the limelight for so long. A lot of people who don't follow movies or hollywood that much might have heard of James Cameron but not know what he has done because its been a long time since his last movie.
Sharlo - definately not - 1st he acted out of pure self interest. 2nd what stops that alien from bringing an Armada to destroy us all? We have to have faith and trust. Cosner in Dances with Wolves. . . would have been shot as a traitor Point blank and simple. the comparison to Iraq and Afghan are cursory . . . life is muddier In Movies you have the luxury of GOOD/BAD and little gray Rocket River Rocket River
I guess we're really seeing it different ways. Sharlto was a prick to be sure, through about 3/4 of the way through the movie. And even when he was helping Christopher, his motivations at first were still selfish. Yet the aliens were clearly being oppressed, and his actions could very well have saved their race. To me that's a hero, a flawed hero, but hero nonetheless. And of course Costner would be branded a traitor; he practically was in the movie. But we, as the audience, certainly didn't see it that way. We could sympathize with his character and the plight of the Sioux. Really don't get the hate for this...maybe it's the unbelievable hype. But if you look past that...forget about the bs about the technology completely revolutionizing the industry...you might actually find a rather enjoyable movie. People complain so much about the lack of quality product in Hollywood today...how producers are out for a quick buck and opt for the cheap laugh, the potty humor, tasteless explosions and shallow characters. Here's a movie that has been a decade in the making, a labor of love of sorts by an accomplished filmmaker. And yet people are s****ing on it before it even opens...trying to find every last fault in it. I think at best, it's another massive hit to fill his resume. At worst it's comparable to Peter Jackson's King Kong. Nothing wrong with that...I liked King Kong, flaws and all.
Don't forget about The Last Samurai. ..oh and Soldier. Same plot there, too. Let's see... how many movies have we counted that have done this plot? hmm... On Deadly Ground Star Trek Insurrection Dances With Wolves District 9 The Last Samurai Soldier
Don't forget The Last Samurai. D'OH! Droxford beat me to it. Anyway the "gone native" plotline has been used long before.
They look like a tribe of Jar Jar Binks clones after chewing some of Wonka's blueberry gum, but I'm sure I'll go see it. Hoping the reviews will be solid.
