They'll also have to play in the SEC championship, probably against Florida. I think Penn State is really flying under the radar in terms of being in the BCS championship game. Besides playing a very mediocre Ohio State team, the rest of their schedule is a cake walk.
If Tech plans to move up, they're going to have to beat really good Big 12 teams and maybe then they'll get noticed. btw how the heck is USC #6, sure they beat ASU but they lost to a Oregon State. If anyone should be #6 it should OSU.. or TTU . BCS is such a beauty contest.
I find your overreactions and your defensively attacking posting style amusing. Calm down and enjoy the fact that your team is top 15. You could be following a team that's not.
First of all, so as to not confuse anyone about my "bias," I'm a HUGE UT fan. Favorite team by far, and though I don't post as many as others, my posting record will reflect this. Not a "T-shirt" fan as some would like to call them, as I graduated in 2000, was at the 2006 Rose Bowl, was at 2006 Ohio State, 2004 Arkansas, the Nebraska game in Austin and Lincoln the last few years, and just got back this week from the roadie to Colorado. So, let's not confuse me with any UT trolls that don't know the game or just like to stir sheet. My major problem is seeing The Cat cry about **** every single time it doesn't go his way. It gets freaking old. Yes, of course I could, and should, ignore it. But it's like he can never admit anyone else's perspective could possibly be correct but his. Beyond annoying. Look, I said this is the truth as *I* see it, and that applies to TODAY. You keep making all these points about 5, 6, 7, weeks down the road. That's great. I'm talking about now. Right NOW, I think USC has a better resume than Mizzou. If you disagree? That's fine. It doesn't mean I like USC. I could give a rat's ass about them, frankly. But, the Ohio State team they beat (which I abhor) is a hell of a lot better than any team that Mizzou has beaten. Do you want me to throw a bunch of numbers your way that you can refute? Fine, here you go..... http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbt08.htm As of TODAY (which I'm discussing, not ten years ago, nor 5 weeks in the future, in which anything can happen.) If you want to use an objective tool, such as the Sagarin ratings, then the Oregon State team that beat USC is objectively better than the Illinois team that Mizzou barely beat. It's also only 7 spots behind Ohio State and 8 spots behind Ok State. I'm not even sure Texas deserves to be number 1, but relative to others and their resume, I guess they are as good a pick as any other. What about Mizzou? My personal opinion is that they've not looked very good when I've seen them on tv. So they "only" lost by 5 on TV. Very true. But that means you are putting a lot of stock into OSU's performance. I might tend to say that Mizzou's defense sucked ass, and Chase Daniels folded like a house of cards under the pressure of playing a decent team. But hey, to each his own. I just expected them to be a juggernaut this year, and I'm finding myself less than impressed with them as the season has progressed. They struggled (namely with turnovers) against Buffalo. They leaked like a sieve vs. the Illini, who don't exactly look like gangbusters. And they didn't look all that mighty to me vs. a solid to middle of the pack Ok State team. You disagree? That's fine. But stop bringing your "I'm right about everything" shtick in here all the time. Or, my favorite, "why is there a conspiracy out to get my team?" routine. It's freaking old. And if it wasn't, there wouldn't be so many people flocking to this thread with their "Poor Cat" commentary. Mizzou will BY FAR have the better resume than USC if both teams win out the rest of the year, dude. Don't worry about that. What I would worry about is trying to take care of business next week. This Texas team seems to smell blood. I've never seen a team so hungry here. They are definitely not the most talented- the 2005 team probably had talent advantages at every position but maybe linebacker. But they are as cohesive and determined as ever, and after beating OU, I don't think they'll fear anyone. But yes, you can stop fretting about the National Title game yet. Remember- there is room for TWO teams. Mizzou still has a chance to have their say because they are playing in what is either the top, or second best conference in the nation. This year, I think the Big 12 may be equal, or slightly better, than the SEC. Depends on if you look at top to bottom, or top heavy. (Aggies and Iowa State look pretty doormat-ish, although ISU gave KU a scare last weekend.) Finally, somewhat surprised Mizzou dropped so far, but it's still a crapshoot this early. Gonna be a lot about style points and matchups the rest of the way. Mizzou's season is almost totally on the line next week, at least in terms of the national hunt. Lucky for them, they can still get into the BCS by taking care of the north and their easy schedule vs. the South. If Texas can run the MU, OSU, TT gauntlet, they'll have earned that #1 ranking for sure. Lots of football left to be played.
What's beyond annoying is when you throw out blanket character assassinations like that without any evidence or examples. If you've got a problem with me or how I post, that's great. But tell me so I at least have an idea of what you're talking about. Who is this "so many"? Right now, I've seen two -- you and arkoe. I'm not trying to be mean -- I generally want to know what you're talking about. When you talk about me thinking I'm right -- doesn't everyone? I thought message boards were a place to share your own opinions about what you think is right in a given situation. Am I missing something?
By what measure? It could easily be said that the Big12 is overrated as well. Personally, I think the Big12 and SEC are in a class of their own and have been for the past few years. As we enter the heart of conference play, teams from both conferences are going to be exposed and the rankings will shake up. I'd love to see SEC vs. Big12 in the NC game for no other reason than the fact that they have been the two best conferences the past few years.
I think texas deserves to be #1, the next 3 weeks will make or break them. Big 12 is better than the SEC. Only real evidence we have so far is Arkansas v Texas. I know arkansas sucks, but texas totally humiliated them, and ARK did beat Auburn this weekend and played closer to the elite sec teams than they did with Texas. And sorry about Missouri, I for sure wanted an epic #1 vs #2 match next weekend, but the fact is if you are not an elite school like UT, Texas, Florida, Ohio State, you have to win to get respect. If you lose, you lose respect, because you dont have top tier athletes and you don't have a tradition of winning. The thing that impressed me most about ok state was actually their defense. They harrassed chase.
This is basically a preview of the BCS standings: http://www.masseyratings.com/cf/compare.htm 1. TX 2. Penn St. 3. Alabama 4. USC 5. OK 6. OSU 7. TX Tech 8. FL 9. GA 10. MO I still don't see how USC can be ranked that high though, even they have a good chance of going undefeated the rest of the way; but still, their SOS is gonna take a pounding after they get through the Pac-10. Yet they're still ranked in the top 5. Texas Tech is still WAY overrated. Great offense, but still suspect defense (fyi be beat them last year in a shootout)
Tech at College Station this weekend... Red Raider players already talking trash about A&M... http://everythinglubbock.com/content/fulltext/?cid=17431
Everyone keeps talking about there improved defense. Well... Ya... They improved their run defense a notch or two. Some good that does you in the Big 12. Did Texas even run the ball against OU?
A quick look at the box score will tell you that UT had ran the ball 35 times, the exact same number of pass attempts.
