I love fans of a 2-4 team who is 0-2 in their conference who say their conference is overrated. Who cares if these guys get NFL scouts excited? Are they playing in the NFL? The rankings determine the best college team not the team with the best NFL prospects.
Trust me, Texas is not the same team as they were last year. OSU's offense has been seen - what makes you think that Texas will have any trouble with any type of offense in the country after stopping OU? Texas' glaring weakness (if you want to call it that) is its secondary, and it held up against a strong pass offense. Don't even think about running - no one has scored a rushing TD on Texas THROUGH 6 GAMES, and teams are avging some ridiculously low 50 something yards a game on the ground. I doubt Hunter will change that. Texas will take care of OSU easily.
I'll agree with most of that. While I think we largely beat ourselves last night, I definitely came out with a ton of respect for OSU. I expected the spread and the speed, but what impressed me even more is the strength and physicality of both lines. I know they'll move up if they keep winning, but the fact that OSU is behind one-loss teams like USC, Florida and OU is a crime. You guys are undefeated and playing like a top 5 team, and that's all there is to it. (That's also why I'm whining so much about being behind USC and Florida, even if we win next week. You guys are in a completely different league than Ole Miss and Oregon State.)
When USC lost this year, they went from #1 to #11, despite having a win over OSU already. When Florida lost, they went from #4 to #13. The Mizzou drop is no different than that. If Missouri were to win, how they move will depend on they look when winning. But yeah, the would probably be behind Florida and USC because their loss would be a bit more recent. That may be silly, but it's how the polls have always worked - it has nothing to do with Missouri being Missouri. If you lose, it's always better to lose early. The unbiased Sagarin computer poll has Missouri at 17, for what it's worth. The reality is that they just don't have any major wins yet. By the end of the season, the pollsters the last few years have gotten pretty good about moving the teams around into the right order, though it doesn't always look like it on a week to week basis.
That's rich. Discredit his opinion not for it's invalidity but due to the team he follows. A team which by the way he didn't bring up and has nothing to do with the conversation.
You forget that our QB is one of the best scrambling QB's in the nation, he rushed for over 800 yards in less than 10 game starts. Only Tim Tebow had similar stats last year. He also rushed for 70 yards against a stingy OU defense last year two, fyi. And just to let you know, we have a 6-1, 200lb running back that runs a 4.45 in Keith Toston, who's averaging 8 yards per carry (on 53 carries) waiting in the wings behind Kendall Hunter. Just to let ya know
It's different because of the context. USC and Florida had large drops like that because they lost in September, when there were numerous undefeated teams that you simply had to be behind if you had a loss. In October/November, your drops shouldn't be the same. With that said, the one thing that gives me hope is what you said at the end -- that by the end of the season, pollsters have gotten better at moving teams around and taking second looks, instead of simply relying on prior arbitrary rankings and saying "if you don't lose, you don't drop" the way they used to. And it's true that Florida did move into the MNC after winning the SEC title, so that gives me some hope. But when it comes to voters and USC, I just have a hard time imagining them doing the right thing and looking at the complete body of work and not their own crushes and the front of the jerseys. I hope I'm just being paranoid -- we'll see. Hopefully we can all agree that if Missouri wins this weekend, they'd have as impressive a resume as anyone (with the exception of the undefeateds).
Mizzou, Texas Tech, OKSU, Kansas - all 2nd tier NCAA teams. Good teams, yes....but not of the caliber of Texas......if Texas sleeps or has tons of turnovers they might steal a win....but they don't have the quality of athletes top to bottom to really compete for a national championship. As for the SEC....they have been overated for the last couple of years.....the Big 12 has been their equal and this year...top to bottom blows them out of the water. Heck LSU's last National championship was won with mirrors and luck.... DD
No I am not. I am the most non-Aggie Aggie in the history of all Aggies. I just don't think these ballerina offenses stand a chance against fast, physical, SEC teams. Alabama and Georgia in particular.
you're right DD, that's why when Texas, or OU loses to those teams they get pounded. Texas gets top 5 recruits in the Nation all the time, so there is no excuse when they lose (which they do) to teams with lesser athletes. At least give credit where it is due-- if it wasn't for Mizzou or Tech or OKSU's coaches they wouldn't be as good as they are.
Defensively, perhaps, but if you don't think Missouri's offensive talent and overall athletes, from top to bottom, is on par with Texas, Oklahoma and anyone, you haven't been watching football.
What, defense doesn't count as half the talent? Who cares if Tech can score if they can't stop anyone? Top to bottom, means......the entire roster...offense, defense and special teams. And none of those teams match up with Texas & OU in the Big 12. Hey but look at it this way, at least they are all better than Notre Dame these days. DD
If you're going to use the Cotton Bowl (a fair barometer, since it's Big 12/SEC every year) as evidence, it does seem extremely curious why you'd choose the 2006 game instead of the 2008 game.
No, but there's more to it than talent. I don't think anyone in the world thinks Alabama's overall talent or depth of athletes is anywhere near equivalent to that of Georgia, for example. But Alabama went in there and dominated. It's about execution. Missouri finished 12-2 and No. 4 in the nation last year. If they win this week, on the road at No. 1, they'll be 6-1 and on the verge of the top 5 with four automatic wins coming up. On what planet is that second tier? Get back to me when those other teams you listed do that.
Yes since Texas had such a great year last season. Every year Texas loses to some team they have no business losing to, this year will be no different. I am glad you beat OU but you are very delusional.
I didn't beat anyone.....I went to Texas State, I am just not blinded by homerism to the truth. Texas is far and away better than those other teams.....could they lose...sure...but they shouldn't. DD
