Err, so fighting counterfeiting isn't a big deal to you? That's like saying we should spend less time investigating burglaries and a little more time growing the economy. How exactly does one take away from the other?
The article says that about $118 million in funny money was detected in 2006. It wouldn't make much sense to redesign bills with updated security features if it wasn't an issue. Of course, what's to stop counterfeiters from continuing to make copies of the old bills? It's not like all the old bills are being taken out of circulation.
They need a $1,000,000 bill. I mean, I'm getting tired of carrying all these fat stacks of $100 bills in my pocket.
it would be depressing to cash your paycheck and only get like 3 or 4 bills. but yeah, they definitely should have up to 1000 in bills. maybe get rid of the one dollar and 5 dollar bill and add the $500 and $1000 bill. pennies annoy me. you can't use them in machines and they take up pocket space. everything should be rounded.
A $500 and a $1000 bill is beyond r****ded. What kind of things are you guys buying with cash that would require bills of that amount? Besides, most cash registers are usually stocked with no more than $100-$300 to minimize losses in case of robbery.
When new bills come out the old ones start to get scrutinized more. Once the new ones become a bit common people really start to pick apart the older bills. Plus everyone is pretty cautious with a 100 anyways.
We do have $500 dollar bill up to $10,000 bills. They were taken out of circulation to make it harder for criminals to carry out their transactions.
well this is worth about 1.6 million now if that helps side cool story bro: i actually had a 500 dollar bill as a kid it was a gift given to me from my uncle (who balls with the best of them) i had it in the house for the longest time but as soon as I was like 9 or 10 my parents opened a savings account and forced me to deposit the bill into the bank. I remember screaming at them saying not to because its rare and i wanted to keep it to look at it. it was in amazing condition too looking at ebay right now if i had it graded i would have probably been able to sell it for at least triple its face value
I'd spend that in strip clubs if I really had that, so many $1s! Was just a thought though. It'd be more convenient in special situations, but nowadays people don't even carry $50s in their wallets..... I almost exclusively use my CC too (and I pay the bill in full every month)
Actually, the old bills will be gradually taken out of circulation just as any other old/worn bills would. The counterfeiters can still make them, but as time goes by there will be less of the old bills around, so the suspicion and awareness of an "old" $100 bill being counterfeit would go up, I would think. It will take a while since $100 bills aren't circulated as much, but eventually it would get to a point where you would probably be looked at funny if you went to pay for something with a few $100 bills that were all the old style. Odds are you wouldn't have that many in possession if they weren't counterfeit.
